“A Return Visit”
Reviewed 24 March 2014

I visited this museum a number of years ago, before it had been refurbished. Although impressed then, it has greatly improved. Very small but full of very interesting facts and exhibits.

My husband and I were given a warm welcome from the guide who told us all about the remarkable life and career of Dr Henry Duncan - an unsung hero!

This attraction, along with the lovely Ruthwell Church made a nice visit, although it was a very cold day.

“A mine of interesting and valuable information”
Reviewed 1 February 2014

The museum is small, just one room but is full of interesting and valuable information. We managed to catch a talk given by a knowledgeable member of staff explaining the history of the savings bank in Scotland. The story is very interesting, and the man who started off the savings bank is even more inspiring. The information is relevant to today and would be interesting for anyone and especially local people. Worth a visit, it is free and you can take in everything in about 40 minutes.

“Excellent”
Reviewed 30 October 2013

Have wanted to visit this museum for a long time and am so glad I did. It is a fascinating insight into both the savings bank origins and the life and work of Dr Henry Duncan. Combined with a visit to Ruthwell Church this was an excellent day out. Mairi, the guide, is very knowledgeable and is obviously passionate about her subject.

“Facinating story about the origins of modern banking”
Reviewed 15 September 2013

Well worth a visit, you have to knock to get in. and take note which days it's open, I think it's shut Mondays we found out the hard way! Great story and some very interesting facts and a good collection of money boxes. The custodian was very knowledgeable and keen to help in any future projects our son might have if needed. The museum is free and funded by the banks seemingly, maybe if they followed the principals shown here they might not have put us in the mess they have. Will happily recommend this as a place to visit
