“Nice location but no sculptures”

Was in Dumfries so went to find the Glenkiln sculptures, Road into the valley in a very poor state, building works along the road have caused many large potholes. The beautiful countryside was breathtaking, only found 2 sculptures which was disappointing. Not worth the drive through the pot holes.

I visited and filmed this beautiful valley a few weeks ago. Four days after I filmed the Henry Moore's Standing Figure had been stolen from Glenkiln. The others moved away for safe keeping. No longer do we have the privelege that so many have enjoyed over these past 40 years thanks to to greed and a crime from unthinking, stupid and ignorant people.

Travelled by car and found most of the statues including John the Baptist in the small car park. Loved the standing figures by Henry Moore. Just a little disappointed there weren't more statues to find after travelling a fair distance to find them. Lovely idea.

Liked the setting for the sculptures in a remote countryside. No plaques, information or other signage - they are just there! Make your own mind up what they represent. Some diificult to spot up on the hillside but all the more interesting for that.

If you like outdoor sculpture, particularly Henry Moore then you won't be disappointed by the Glenkiln sculptures. You do need to come prepared with a map or guide (you can download from the internet) as the route is not way marked in any way.
