A bit further off the M74 than I expected on travelling from Hampshire to Edinburgh. Great staff & very friendly on arrival at 10pm. Room, beds (incl child beds) and bathroom spotless and comfortable. Would highly recommend this Travelodge as best one we've stayed in over the last few years.

Stayed here for 3 nights, great location for exploring, room was great - recently refubished, staff were friendly, handy petrol station next door. No complaints. Tesco 5 mins away. Only thing that spoils it is the little chef directly infront thats closed down.

Stayed at this hotel for 2 nights. On first night, our room had stained carpet, mouldy shower curtain, and shower stopped working midway through. The bathroom fan did not work, and the room rapidly became damp and humid!
When I complained to reception, I was told to see the manageress the following morning.

The manageress was extremely apologetic, and we were moved to another room which whilst it had a working shower also had a non-working fan!

We decided to not to complain again, as it was our last night!

The manageress did point out that the hotel had been refurbished, and contractors were still on site snagging!

We had an excellent sleep as the hotel is very quiet at night. There are other similar hotels available, but I would use the Travelodge again if the niggles were sorted out as its room rate is extremely competitive.

We’re pleased to hear you slept well during your stay with us Shane005, although it is regrettable that certain aspects of the stay fell below our expectations. All of the facilities should be in good working order and fit for purpose so we will ensure our Hotel Manager team are making the required improvements and these issues are addressed in the hotel.

Stayed a couple of nights a week for a few weeks whilst working in the area.

The Travelodge is a budget hotel and never pretends to be anything else, and should be applauded for that. However there are now rival chains in the same market place who offer marginally higher levels of comfort for roughly the same price.

When staying for more than a night or two some of the smaller things start to niggle more and more. The rooms have a very basic feel to them, minimalist without the style factor. The beds are comfy, but only in the same way a tent is on that first night.

No food onsite apart from a vending machine and the less than tempting proposition that is a microwaved bacon muffin thingy. There is however a TableTable restaurant a short walk away, but unfortunately for the Travelodge it adjoins a rival hotel offering a shade more comfort for much the same price. That is where this Travelodge will keep losing out. They did with me.

One big plus however is the friendliness of the staff. Always welcoming at any time of day or night.

Bit wary of staying in this hotel due to previous negative reviews (prior to refurb) - thank goodness for Trip Advisor reviews to put our mind at ease. The rooms have indeed been refurbished and while they try to feel homely like the Premier Inn, they just seem a bit soul-less. However, they do the job - it is a place to sleep for the night, the bed was fine and actually quite comfy. The children's bed was just a camp bed and really not comfortable (we didn't actually need it as we had a travel cot) but its worth knowing that it wasn't anywhere near as nice to lie on as the main double bed. Bathroom fine. Ultimately it was clean and fairly large - a typical travelodge sized room.

There is a Premier Inn literally over the roundabout from here which has a pub attached which gets busy but does nice and reasonable food. We ate a meal there, you could walk to it from the Premier Inn if you wanted to though the road was rather busy so maybe best not to. The Travelodge is right on the A75 and just 2 miles outside of Dumfries so an ideal location. Despite being on the main road, we didn't hear any traffic noise at all and we were on the front of the travelodge next to the car park and road.

It does suffer from looking like the poor sister of the Premier Inn due to the closed down Little Chef right in front of it which really needs to be taken over! We ate breakfast at the Morrisons which was 1.5 miles away in Dumfries rather than the super busy restaurant next to the Premier Inn....it was a great tip from another trip advisor reviewer!

Main gripe was that we arrived at 2 and thought we would see if the room was ready. If we gave the lady at reception £10 for early arrival, the room would be ready...which indicated that there was a room ready. I think I'd have rather her said it wasn't ready rather than "pay me £10 and you can get into your room" - we just killed the hour and went back at 3 when they almost suggested that the room wasn't ready! I know it is Travelodge policy to have payment on late check out and early check in but I really don't agree with it. By the time the lady on reception had told me about the policy and mentioned the £10, she could have checked me into an available room, so it is basically twice the work for her to make me come back. This is more of a moan against the Travelodge rather than specifically Dumfries!

I would stay here again, for £39 we got what we paid for and the main thing for me is cleanliness and it definitely was clean and tidy.

Spent two nights here recently. The rooms were refurbished and were spotless. Found the staff polite and helpfull. Beds were comfortable and was a wee bit dissapointed the tv didnt offer all the freeview channels (couldnt understand why they didnt).

We were on the ground floor and our window was broken and wouldnt shut, was explained to us that the windows were still to be replaced. The upshot was we couldnt leave valuables in this room.

As stated elsewhere there is no restaurants nearby apart from a Table2Table next to the Premier Inn which by all accounts is not good (just have a look on this website). A good base to explore this part of the world or stopping off point. Room value was excellent as booked well in advance.

Room Tip: unless window sorted, avoid room 19.
