The view from the camera obscura makes a visit absolutely worthwhile. The museum is well put together, although probably not “exciting” enough for children who want to press buttons. Really helpful and friendly staff.

A wonderful museum filled with exhibits that will appeal to any interest and age. The special treat is at the top of the winding staircase of the old converted windmill- the original camera obscura. It is a treasure trove of Dumfries a clear and colorful spyglass as if you are a bird with an aerial tour of the city. What a gem!

A very wet day. We browsed the interesting artefacts, from ancient to modern, all very well displayed and explained. The curling exhibition was particularly informative and we tried our hand twice at the "curling rink" set up on the ground floor. Quite noisy but great fun! Staff very knowledgeable. Camera obscura not open because of poor visibility, nevertheless we were taken as far as we could go and show landmarks from the upper windows of the museum, which is a former windmill.

it was brilliant they had a very old camera which was worked by mirrors and it showed all of dumfries very close up. It was live and you could see the cars moving and the wind blowing the trees. It was fasinating to think something so old could be so effective
