Normal enough Premier inn, clean & tidy with all the usual facilities. Only negative i had was with one of the ladies on reception. I asked for a re print of my invoice, and it seemed like it had asked her to walk the great wall of china. Other than her & it was a positive stay.

I was in room 12, and thats the room right next to a doorway in the middle of the corridor, if you need an early night id advice against staying in this room as you constantly hear it being opened and closed all night.

Usual good standard of bed from Premier Inn, but the down side was the shower. The difference between bathrooms in the Premier Inn hotels is immense. Some have an individual shower cubical and bath, which are really good. This hotel, however, has the 19th Century shower through the tap system, which feels more of a dribble than a shower, even when on full power.

Other than that it is what you expect from a budget hotel.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for your comments on your recent stay with us, I am sorry that the showers in Dumfries Premier Inn didn't come up to your expectations. We are in line for a full refurbishment here at Dumfries and this would include full bathroom upgrades. Thank you for taking the time to give us feedback on your stay and hope to see you again in the future.

Enjoyed a great stay at Premier Inn Dumfries with husband and two children aged 2 and 4. Comfortable spacious family room. Enjoyed a great dinner in the restaurant, kids got activity pack which kept them happy, kids menu had very good selection. Breakfast was also excellant and good value. Staff were really helpful and went out of their way to ensure we had a good stay.

We had problems finding the place, as the TomTom had it placed 100 yards further up the road than it was, and it was dark when we arrived. The hotel is hidden up a driveway, so you can't see it from the road, and the familiar sleeping moon sign wasn't illuminated (presumably, it's meant to be). It's hard to find a PI outside Glasgow and Edinburgh in Scotland, so we decided to give this one a try on our way home. The welcome was good, as always, and our room was upstairs, and close to reception. It was a bit old fashioned, and clearly an older style hotel. The TV was an old CRT, but it did have text, which we find essential when travelling for weather, traffic news, etc. The bathroom also was old fashioned with separate hot and cold taps instead of a mixer. The shower was OK, but pressure only adequate. I'm beginning to wonder if PI deliberately limit the pressure to save hot water, because this is a recurring theme, no matter where we stay. One apparently minor effect of the older style is the doors. The previous one we stayed in had modern proximity key cards, where you hold them close to the lock, and the door magically unlocks. You can slip the credit card sized keys in your wallet which is especially convenient if you're staying for more than one night. This had old fashioned locks with keys, so you have to carry a keyring around, but the other feature was that the doors were stiff, and would not close without a bang. Our room overlooked a grassy area (with resident rabbits) and there seems to be a main line railway close by. We could here the bells from a level crossing, and occasional trains whooshing past. Not an issue for us, because it was cold, and the window was almost shut. In the summer it may be an issue, because there's no air-con of course.
Looking at the building from the outside, it looks like the area furthest from reception may be newer than the rest, because the stonework looked fresher. Possible these rooms may be to a higher standard, not that there was much wrong with ours?
The adjacent Table-Table was pleasant enough for both breakfast and evening meal, and we found the staff friendly and helpful. Disappointing they had no real beer though.
We'd be happy to stay again.

Room Tip: Ask for one not facing the railway, and check if there are more modern rooms in some parts. Actually...

Must be the friendliest staff we have encountered on our trip so far (both the hotel and Table Table next door). Nice clean place to stay (adult, 11,10, 10), nil problems. A shame the free internet is timed at Premier Inn though.
