I regularly use Premier Inns for business trips and they are usually very good value with comfortable rooms and decent breakfasts. Dumfries is no exception, but I have to say that the hotel itself is possibly due for a refit, it did feel slightly tired. The attached pub was very nice but unfortunately does not serve real ale. I always think that if a pub can't be bothered to serve decent beer then they are not going to be bothered to serve top quality food either; having said that the breakfast was very good.

Stayed here whilst on a short holiday tour. As we arrived half of the car park was flooded so parking was limited.

Greeted at reception by the very pleasant Lauren who directed us to our room at the end of a corridor on the ground floor. Opened the door to be greeted by a very musty, damp smell as if the room had been closed up for quite a while. Opened the windows & this soon disappeared. Room was spacious & comfortable although the choice of tv channels was quite limited. Bathroom spacious & clean, but water pressure poor in shower. Bed very comfortable, room quiet although we needed an extra duvet, kindly brought to our room by Lauren.

Had a very tasty evening meal & breakfast in the attached Solway Gate restaurant next door. Food was very good & the standard of service efficient.

Ideal base for exploring the wonderful Borders & Galloway Forest. Would recommend & will return.

As with premier inns, you know what you're getting. We paid £29 for one night stay just before Christmas 2013 en route to Scotland. Personally, I like to have my bedroom window open overnight for fresh air and this venue does have windows that open. Staff very friendly. We only had one towel in the room on arrival so I asked for another one and more sachets of coffee which was no problem. Check in and out quick and easy.

We stayed here for two nights for a wedding. The staff were really helpful and the room was a really good size. The room was clean and the showers were powerful.

There is a restaurant/pub attached to the premier inn and the breakfast was delicious. There is such a wide range of options to have however I would suggest going slightly earlier as they do not top the fruit bowl back up.

The lunch at the pub again was delicious and our waitress was wonderful. Our dinner however was a tad disappointing. I hate the risotto which was so bland. To cover up the taste I think an entire parmesan was grated on top. Another guest of the wedding party sent the calamari back as they were soggy and the batter did not taste right. Another was upset with the size of her portion for her main and a few others complained the food was not brilliant.

I would definitely recommend this hotel for a stop over along with the breakfast as the staff are very friendly and the breakfast is very good. Maybe find somewhere else for dinner.

Room Tip: The walls here are quite thin so I would suggest a room upstairs so you can not hear people above yo...

We stayed in a family room which offered good, reliable comfort, with the standard decor, although the room looked clean and tidy it did not smell fresh and had a well used air, it had a nice size flat screen tv, The single bed was very comfortable and a good size, the bathroom was clean and had piping hot water and a good over bath shower friendly reception staff and room with good heating. The evening meal was just ok and seemed heated up and dry, the service was very good. The Breakfast was a great deal for a family as children eat for free. Quite a walk to town but not far if driving. there was no pubs near the hotel within a safe walk (down unlit country roads) the staff were nice and polite but the Manager in reception went out of her way to chat with us and advise us on places to go and where to park both in Dumfries and in Edinburgh where we were staying next) for this alone I would stay again.

This Premier Inn was typical of many I have stayed in. Clean rooms, friendly reception staff and room with good heating. The room needed a small chair to sit and watch the tv rather than the unit (cant think of a suitable name) that doubled up as a single bed. Very uncomfortable.

My negative experience was breakfast. When I realised that it was cooked to order I expected well cooked HOT food. Sadly, I was mistaken. The hash browns were warm but obviously had been cooked earlier like some of the other items and kept under a hot plate. The omelette was hot when it arrived but because the plate was cold it soon cooled as well. I appreciate serving food on hot plates is not easy but the plates could have been warm.
