My husband and i stopped overnight at this hotel en route home to the north of Scotland and sincerely wish we had just kept driving. The food had clearly been reheated in the microwave and was tasteless and luke warm. The bar area was far too rowdy to sit in after our meal so we finished our drinks in the cold dining room. The worst aspect of this hotel however was the room. We heard every noise throughout the night, from the person next door snoring to the idiots running up and down the corridor ALL night. The room was not clean (half used complimentary toiletries left for our use) and the staff had faces like a wet weekend.A grim hole of a place.

We recently got married in gretna green and booked this hotel for our reception as well as booking all the hotel rooms, when first considering this hotel for our wedding reception the staff were very friendly and when on the phone before the wedding I had every confidence we had made the right decision, however, once the money was handed over what a complete change!!
First problem, on checking in, we were handed the keys and told the room was upstairs, there was no information given for eating times or where you had to go for breakfast (which is not the main area), anyway on arrival we entered the 'luxurious' honeymoon suite to find that there was no complimentary bottle of bubbly as described, we presumed we would get it on the wedding day, (which we only received after going down and asking, which no-one likes doing) the jacuzzi bath when you turned it on had black mould coming out and (not to everyones taste) rather dated silk sheets and bedding. The room was clean enough though. The so called relaxing experience turned into a nightmare when going upstairs to bed to find we were directly above the friday night disco with pounding music till after 12, no good if your getting up early for your wedding, or have small children. As for breakfast, which didnt start till 9am when the website clearly states different, no one showed us where to go except the helpfull cleaner and on arrival were greeted by a rather grumpy member of staff who looked like she just didn't want to be there, the food was great when it arived however the service was terrible and you had to keep asking for things to be topped up, the staff shouldn't need to be reminded.

The manager and manageress (rachel) who had been great on the phone never once came down to us and greeted us or asked if we needed any help etc they quite frankly blanked us (such a change from when waiting for our money!), and throughout the whole weekend we saw them once when they were getting themselves a drink at the bar where she looked at me and just turned away when i tried to catch her attention.

As for the wedding reception I was extremely dissapointed to find that when me and my husband arrived I could see family and friends buying drinks from the bar, and when I went over to the member of staff who had previoulsy served breakfast, asking where the 'drinks on arrival' were she pointed over my shoulder and said "there", I was totally taken aback, the two young girls made no attempt to hand out the drinks, they just propped themselves against the bar and watched me hand a few out till i said can you hand these out please, throughout the meal (which was very nice in all fairness) my husband had to get up and ask the girls where the drinks were ie, the drinks packages we had paid for.

Quite frankly the problem with this hotel is that there were two young girls who were basically left to run the place, there was no-one there to supervise or over see anything, I'm sorry but it should not be up to the bride and groom to ask or remind the staff that drinks need to be handed out etc, or keep asking for things to be topped up, over all we were extremely dissapointed. When you think about how much money you are spending you expect a little more helpfulness and service with a smile. By all means, have a drink and meal there but dont have your reception, the hassle free service they promote on the website and luxurious rooms are just simply lacking!!

Called in for a meal and drink ,we where staying elswhere in the village ,ordered to drinks from the miserable unfriendly bar staff one drink tasted awaful like fairy liquid ( Tetley smooth) we complained and had another pint pulled no sorry just a scowl,
that was as bad so complained again only to be told everyone else is drinking it ,and was eventualy offered an alternative ,
We didn't stay for any food mainly because of the rude manners of the staff ,give it a miss and have a drink in Smiths 200yrds down the road.

I cannot believe anyone would give this hotel a bad review. My daughter has just got married in Gretna green, we booked all the rooms, which were excellent, exactly as described, the staff were brilliant and really helped to make my girls day special, the wedding breakfast was lovely, as were all the other meals, I would highly recommend it.

We asked for a double room but was told the only room available was the bridal suit which we could have for the price of a double. Our initial joy was soon quashed when we entered the room. Very poorly decorated and smelt stale. As it was just for one night we thought after a couple of drinks and a meal in the so called award winning restaurant things might appear brighter. Wow what a disgrace. It took 20 minutes to be informed my prefered choice was unavailable. our food came after an hour.Uncooked / raw cauliflower, one crushed potato absolutely awful. My wifes food was cold and was described as steak in a ciabati actually it was a bap. We complained to the duty manageress who was really unhelpful. We went to the local chinese takeaway and ate in the car. overall experience...AWFUL.

bad service from the staff is just the start, both managers walked away from me whilst complaining about my meal for the second time this was obviously inconvenient to deal with a customer. Breakfast on both mornings was beyond a joke (we were only met by insects) the beds were so cheap even my eight year old complained about them.Do yourself a favor STAY SOMEWHERE ELSE.

we stayed at this hotel for two nights in the bridal suite , when we arrived we were asked if we was having breakfast in the following morning and when we asked what time it was served they replied 7.30-9.30, the breakfast was o.k but only as good as the local greasy spoon oh and the sausages some times come with over fried chips(from last night) from the fryer and the toast comes with added mould,
on our last morning we arrive for breakfast at 8.30 and was told that the cheff would not be down until 9.00 !!!!
the food last year was excellent 10/10 but this year it has gone realy bad 4/10
when our room was cleaned the first days stay the towels came back smelling of fryer oil as too did the bed linnen,
the water soon ran out after a bath and then had to have a coldish shower,
now if you are intending to book the bridal suite i sugest that you re think things as this room is situated directly over the bar area and trust me its very rowdy and the music is blareing until the early hours of the morning .......saturday 1.15......sunday 12.15,
if you are thinking of booking here think very hard before you do....the smiths is only a stones throw away and we stayed there last year , but this year it was full i can highly recomend the smiths,
its the old saying you get what you pay for.
