We loved our stay here - owner Gill and her staff were so welcoming. As you would expect of a very old building the rooms are quirky! We were given the choice of an enormous suite with small ensuite - or a smaller attic room with a bigger bathroom. We chose the latter - it was clean and comfy and we slept like logs. That may not only have been only due to the quiet - we could not hear the live music from the bar, though Gill warned us it was on - but a result of the outstanding meal we had in the restaurant . The food is delicious and in particular I'll remember the chocolate mousse for years to come . . . . . !!

How we managed to eat breakfast is a mystery - but we managed one of the heartiest
I've seen before leaving in the morning.

All the staff we encountered were lovely, and the worthies in the bar seemed friendly and pleased to welcome new faces. Sadly smokers in the street (or sheltering in doorways) are a regular sight in Scotland these days not just in Kirkcudbright. . . . . . .

This is a charming, family run hotel that we'd love to stay in again.

Great hotel, with beautiful rooms and restaurant. The food was very yummy and beautifully presented! Entertainment in the bar/lounge was great fun and everyone was enjoying themselves! The staff were all kind, very friendly and helpful. They couldn't have done any more for us! Would definately recommend staying in this hotel for all ages!

I call myself a 'survivor' of the Kirkcudbright Bay hotel and my one-night stay there came close to spoiling what would turn out to be an otherwise wonderful holiday in the Outer Hebrides. I entirely agree with the person who said the website is totally misleading - you expect some kind of boutique-style hotel, as I understand it was when the previous owners ran it. The website in no way reflects that the hotel appears to be merely a sideline to what is one of the rowdiest, loudest pubs in the town. Our room overlooked the conservatory where there was a huge party going down on a saturday night - we just wanted to rest after a long drive but couldn't even switch on the TV to drown out the noise as the reception wasn't working. We asked for another room but there wasn't one available and after wandering around in the rain trying to find another place unsuccessfully were finally given a bottle of wine to 'knock ourselves out' so we could fall asleep against the cacophany.
This was by a kind student looking after the place - when we told one of the owners the next day about how little sleep we'd had and she was incredibly rude and told us that she wouldn't even have given us the wine. We were told that the local tourist office couldn't do anything as the hotel wasn't part of their approved accomodation list - wish I had known about their quality checks earlier.

We booked with the Kirkcudbright Bay Hotel to throw a surprise 50th Birthday Party for my Mother. The staff were fabulous in every considerable way - the booking was taken discreetly to keep the surprise intact, and on the evening, the staff were wonderful with helping us to hang banners and decorations, welcoming the arriving guests, and serving up a fabulous buffet that gained more compliments than any other aspect of the party! Mum had a great evening, the guests had a great evening, and I would happily book another event with the hotel!

Stayed here for 4 nights whilst working in the area, could not fault this family run hotel in any way whatsoever.
From the moment we arrived the management and staff went out their way to make sure we had a very enjoyable stay, the food was second to none, would definately stay here again and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone at all.

I was in the hotel for a massive family gathering and had the privilage not only to attend the family gathering but stay in this fine hotel. From the minute I steppped in the door I felt right at home and all the staff were introduced on first name terms which made the whole experience much more personal. The staff were impecable and nothing was ever too much and they always provided service with a smile.
The rooms were very clean and tidy if slightly small bt the use of space was incredible and provided everything I needed. The food was plentiful and of high quality which made breakfast one of the best meals of the day, however the portions are large.

i stayed in kirkcudbright in december 09,
it was a amazing 3 days i had, the couple that owned it were obliging & very helpful evem to eat in the other local pubs. live music is loud but you just gotta join in to enjoy yerself, but i tried the food in many places in town & out of the town but none at all compared with the service or the taste we had.

we,d under no circumstances go anywhere else in south of scotland without thinking of this little gem.
