“Golfing break in theBorders”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 July 2014

A group of us went on a golfing break for 3 days including breakfast and evening meal. We tayed in a 6 berth lodge which was fully kitted out, 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. One drawback was that towels were not provided and we did not receive notice of this.Fortunately some of us ha taken towels for the indoor pool so we muddled through. Phone reception is poor or non existant same with radio and no wi fi but didn't trouble us. The breakfasts were superb, and whilst the evening meals could have had more choice (say off the normal menu + supplement), the quality was good.
The jewel in the crown is definately the golf course. It was in superb condition, the pro and members could not have been more friendly and helpful, and the views are spectacular. I would recommend using a buggy though the course can be walked if you are young and energetic. The back nine are testing terrain for the over 50's.
The whole site is clean and well run with lots of nature trails, wildlife and cycling to keep non golfers occupied. We will definately be going back.

Hello billcheck,
We are delighted you enjoyed the use of our golf courses and agree with you on the spectacular views.
Customers booking our accommodation are informed to bring towels with them and we are sorry you were not made aware of this for your stay. The staff at our Leisure Club could have provided you with towels as a temporary measure.
We have Wi-Fi on the park but due to being in a rural location we don’t always have full coverage from the mobile phone providers.
We are glad you enjoyed your stay with us and thank you for your comments and feedback.

just returned home after a 5 day break with my husband. We found the site quiet which is to our liking. No mobile phone signals or no television reception glad the weather was as nice just to sit and chill in the sunshine. The staff at reception are very friendly and nothing is any bother to them. We were told on arrival if we didn't like the pitch we were allocated we could choose where we wanted and we could move if it hadn't been already booked, when we got to our pitch we couldn't even open the car door due to a massive swarm of flies from under the big tree where our pitch was so headed back to reception and was given another pitch of our choice no problem at all. The club house is a fair bit of a walk from the touring pitches but its nice to see all the wee rabbits on the way up.The cafebar serve good food of reasonable price. The games room is not up to much but overall we enjoyed our stay

Hello ANNE L,
We are very glad you had an enjoyable time here at Brighouse Bay Holiday Park. It is a shame you didn't plug into our TV system at your pitch providing you with over 100 TV channels. Our reception staff provide advice and assistance in the tuning of tv’s.
Because we are in a rural coastal location we do not have full mobile phone coverage, however there is phone reception in certain parts of the park and including outside the Leisure club which also has free Wi-Fi. The games room has been refurbished and we are sorry it wasn’t suitable for you.

Visited recently in our motor home. Staff friendly and helpful and facilities of a very high standard. Only drawback was almost total lack of mobile phone coverage. This could be an advantage for some but a serious problem for those who need to keep in contact with home.

Hello Charles H,
Due to our rural coastal location we do not have full mobile phone coverage. However, we have phone reception in certain areas of the park and a public telephone at reception available 24 hours a day. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and thank you for your comments.

Stayed here for 7 nights in our motorhome, site was very quiet, the whole area was very clean and well maintained. Shower/toilet area was spotlessly clean and smelled lovely. Rosie in the shop was very helpful in suggesting walks and local attractions. The club house was good, managed by Pete and his staff who were all very friendly. The scenery in the area was stunning and we will certainly return

I must write to thank the staff of Brighouse Bay on the kindness and understanding they showed to us when we visited two weeks ago. We had booked a touring pitch here for 2 weeks holiday which we had been looking forward to for months. Unfortunately the day before we were due to start our holiday, my mother in law was taken into hospital unexpectedly and we had to postpone our arrival for 24 hours. At my mother in law's request, we were told under no circumstances to cancel our holiday so we reluctantly ventured down from Edinburgh. On arrival we pitched up on a lovely big site and got ourselves set up and ready to try and do our best to relax. Shortly afterwards we discovered that we had absolutely no phone signal whatsoever, despite having two phones on two different networks. We also had no wifi and no tv reception. Whilst we can live without the latter two, we were very uncomfortable at having no phone signal in case we needed to return to hospital very quickly. We wandered around the park for sometime and distance trying to locate a signal but it was pointless. The following day after a rather sleepless night of anxiety we decided to go and explain to the staff that we would need to move to another park so that we could at least be in phone contact for my in laws. We cannot fault the reception we received and the understanding that we needed to move away. There were no ifs and buts and no demands for extra cash....we were simply allowed to find another park and move away. We were actually reluctant to go as this is a beautiful park. The landscaping and facilities are lovely and the beach a very short walk from our pitch. Unfortunately the other parks in this group had no superior pitches with full hook up so we eventually went to a park further down the coast where we had better reception for phone. The wifi network in D&G as a whole seems very intermittent so anyone reading this who needs to desperately stay in touch by email is going to struggle but if you really want to get away from all that, Brighouse Bay is an idyllic campsite. Thanks very much. My mother in law is now out of hospital one week later and home.

Just back from a G8 golf break to Brighouse Bay, thanks mainly to the wonderful service from all the friendly staff. From the welcome when you arrive at reception, all the way through to the golf pro Jim and green staff, they are faultless. I have to give a special mention to Liz and her staff at the clubhouse who go that mile longer to make your stay trouble free. Liz has trained her staff to a very high level, so that they can be helpful in all aspects, especially Aneta who is tireless in her efforts to please. Alex like the rest of the staff go out of there way to make your stay a happy one. As for the choices of where to stay, I have found the lodges ideal, thanks once again to the choice of Liz, who picked a nice lodge for us which she was right to think it would be suitable.
So if your looking for a nice relaxing place with a wonderful choice of activities, look no further than Brighouse Bay.
Once again many thanks to Liz, Aneta (thunderthighs) and Alex (the tea magician) and all the staff for a really pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Just tell Liz what you require, and im sure she will go out of her way to get something suitable

I recently stayed at Brighouse Bay at Caravan 96 West Way. I knew that I had booked a budget caravan but this was budget++++++. The living room furniture was very faded and dated. The dining room table had a manky washable table cloth on it. There was always a damp smell in the van. The fire did not work on the saturday night so therefore I was frozen. I reported all of my complaints to the office the next day and I am still awaiting a reply from management. The outside furniure was needing the bin; there was no way you could eat from it. The gutters were full of weeds.
The park overall has potential and you can see that some work has been done with the grass been cut and trees trimmed down.
This was a bank holiday weekend. There was no-one on the swimming pool kiosk and had to wait to get attention at the cafe. The jaccuzzi wasnt working.
Please Brighouse get this park improved as a few years ago it was buzzing with atmosphere and was kept tidier than what it is today.
The bottom toilet block seems to have been painted up but needing refurbished.
Great coastal walks and nice beach.
Staff in the shop and office helpful.

Thank you Andi215 for your comments and for reporting this on your departure day. It is a shame you did not report them earlier when we would have been in a position to do something about it. On inspection the fire did work, but clearly we need to give better instructions to our guests.
The small amount of moss in the gutters and the picnic table on the veranda were an oversight and have been cleared.
We find our most popular holiday homes are our centrally heated units.
In the last few years we have been constantly upgrading our park and will continue to do so.
