Stayed here for one night as we were touring Scotland for a few days. The food was lovely with a good choice from the menu. Our bedroom was lovely and clean. Douglas the owner was really helpful and he gave us some good advice about some of the other places we were going to visit after our stay at the Selkirk Arms. Good location for a short walk into Kirkcudbright which is charming.

My partner and I popped in for lunch during a recent holiday in the area-what a lovely place ! Attractive and comfortable eating area, very friendly staff, great food and an opportunity to sample an Innis&Gunn craft beer ! We would recommend the Selkirk Arms to anyone looking for a meal in Kirkcudbright, and it is our intention to stay there on our next visit to the town.A gem.

Stayed for three nights in the garden cottage. Well maintained room that served its purpose. Although it was a busy inn - the room / location was quiet for the three nights we stayed. The restaurant (3 rooms all serving the same menu) was busy on all three nights but we got a table without much wait. The menu and food was very good and there is no need to look elsewhere. Having never been to this part of Scotland I was very surprised how nice an area it was and the town Kirkcudbright was a delightful place to stay with lots to see. I am sure we will be back again.

We stayed at the Selkirk Arms when we visited the town for the Art Trail Weekend. It was an ideal base for this event, being quite central, and the hotel was even taking part in the Festival, exhibiting paintings by local artists. Our room was comfortable and clean and the food was good. The staff were friendly and the hotel seemed to be quietly and efficiently run. We found the garden area relaxing for a pre dinner drink even though it was only a hundred yards or so away from the main thoroughfares of this attractive little town. Although we focused on the town for the weekend, we did manage a couple of trips to some wonderfully peaceful beaches within a twenty minute drive of Kirkcudbright, so the hotel would be a good base for a break along the Scottish Solway Coast.

Kirkcudbright is packed solid with things to look at - go down any of the delightful paths into hidden courtyards full of flowers and pastel coloured walls, towards the Tolbooth and Selkirk Arms. So many art shops to meander around, too. So what better, on a hot summers day, than to sit down for a drink in the comfy lounge or in the shady garden of the Arms, imagining Burns doing the same while composing the Grace. Food is good too and reasonably priced.

We have just had a break at the Selkirk Arms to celebrate my Birthday. The stay was a pleasure from start to finish.
Reception was efficient and very welcoming, poterage was offered without asking.
Our room was of a reasonable size and spotlessly clean with every ammenity. It had the advantage of a seperate sitting room with TV, fridge and a comfortable sofa. A very civilised way to have a cup of coffee.
The standard of decoration and housekeeping throughout the hotel was excellent.
We really enjoyed the food, there was a good choice and the standard of cooking and presentation was excellent. This applied to breakfast as well as dinner.
All the staff we met were efficient, pleasant and gave a very good standard of service.
We found the Selkirk Arms very well situated to explore the area.

This continues to be one of my favourite hotels in southern Scotland. I returned to stay here with a friend recently and it didn't disappoint. What I love most about family run hotels like these is genuine personalized service, upon check in Douglas (the owner) remembered our favourite room and asked if this is the room we would like to have this time also. The food available downstairs in the bistro is fantastic, there is a wonderful selection of local seafood and the cooked breakfast every morning is to die for! Would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a relaxing weekend break. We will be back, thank you!
