Large old building with fabulously quirky interior design - think old leather suitcases and large glass bowls; a wallpaper panel made of the pages of a book and another featuring old candle wall lights. This is all Jennifer's doing

Rooms graceful and well appointed - bathrooms especially good with large shower and generous towels.

Breakfasts are wonderful - yoghurts and fruits and cereals plus "cooked to order" hot food. This is Laurence's department - and he will also do you dinner if you book in advance (not restaurant standard - but good home cooking)

Its a mile into Kircudbright where you will find a few restaurants and some limited attractions - but really this is a great base to explore the gentle beauty of Dumfries & Galloway - just ask Laurence for his suggested tours (and he'll loan you the map !!)

We managed a few days here at Easter 2013 and could not be happier. The weather was extremely cold and snowy but the warmth of the welcome and the roaring log fires certainly made us feel very at home. We had dinner on two evenings and rate Laurence very highly as a chef. Breakfasts too were wonderful and a huge choice. We took our own wine with us and enjoyed finishing off the bottles after coffee in the Library. The house is beautifully decorated with a Scandanavian influence and Jennifers expertise certainly shone through. We had a twin room only because all the other rooms were booked but it was extremely comfortable and we really enjoyed the use of the Arran Aromatics in the beautiful bathroom.
If you are really looking for a relaxing break this is the place to go. It was a delighful change to have no TV in the rooms and you certainly dont miss it. Kirkudbright speaks for itself and plenty to see and do whilst staying there. Even under the snow the garden looked amazing, so sorry though we just missed the Red Panda visiting after escaping from the wildlife centre in behind. Elizabeth McGregor nursery is right next door!

Stayed here recently on a Saturday night. End to end, this was a wonderful bed and breakfast experience.
We were well looked after by the Glenholme's owners, Jennifer & Laurence.
Our room, the Nicolson, is on the 1st floor at the top of the stairs - very well appointed with a super en suite, offering a real power shower (very rarely found these days).
We also took time to relax in the Library downstairs, over coffee, and following a superb cooked breakfast on Sunday morning, strolled around the gardens in glorious early April sunshine.
There is no need to look at other reviews for the Kirkcudbright area.
Just book here.

Room Tip: Any of the 4 rooms will be a treat.

A lovely, relaxing stay. The house is just a joy for anyone remotely interested in interior design. Jennifer has a great eye for combining the unusual, with the scandinavian influence clearly in evidence.
Great food courtesy of Lawrence; the breakfasts were a real treat.
Wonderfully quiet room, with a vey comfortable four poster bed. A great place for a treat.

Room Tip: Every room I saw looked great!

We spent a delightful couple of days staying in this wonderful house. Jennifer and Lawrence were the perfect hosts. The library, with its endless books, quality hi fi and roaring log fire was the perfect place to relax and unwind. The local area is well worth exploring too.

Room Tip: Curzon room had fabulous views over the garden and across the river.

My husband and I recently spent a lovely few days in the charming town of Kirkcudbright in Dumfrieshire, Scotland. We stayed at this delightful country home, spoiled by Lawrence and Jennifer. We stayed in the Curzon Room with views across the lawn and fields to the bay. Even with the lashing rain, we were cozy under the luxurious duvets. And, sitting before the fire in the library, listening to classical music or jazz, reading a good book was just what we needed as the storm raged! Lawrence is a terrific cook and the food was yummy. Jennifer has transformed this home with understated Scandinavian style with British country house sensibility. Just lovely! We can't wait to return. One note: remember to bring your own wine to accompany Lawrence's delicious dinners.

Room Tip: Any room is a delight! Rooms on the back are removed a bit from the sound of the weather that comes...

Glenholme was just what we needed. A quiet, comfortable and beautifully-presented bedroom with a four-poster bed. No traffic, no television, just a room full of books, a huge log fire and wonderful, wonderful home-cooked food. Jennifer and Lawrence could not have been more helpful and friendly. We visited in autumn when the light over the garden and the fields was beautiful. I look forward to returning in summer when the garden will be in full bloom.
