My father's father's family originally came from Kirkcudbright and I know a little bit about the work they did before immigrating. I came to this museum hoping to get a better sense of the history of the place, the working conditions and why people would leave this pretty little town. Unfortunately, the museum is something of a mishmash of donated objects with little stories here and there but not much focus or historical thread. I did enjoy several minutes looking over the genealogy corner but didn't have the time to really delve deeply into what might have been hidden there. I did buy a book of Kirkcudbright history there and appreciated the clean washroom as well as the free entrance. I also thought the wicker Viking half ship on the outside wall was interesting but wasn't sure how it fit into the world of Kirkcudbright.
