“Iconic Image of Kirkcudbright”
Reviewed 4 February 2012

Home of the Lords of Kirkcudbright this fortified town house is sited near the harbou and the Moat Brae with its canon pointing over and protecting the harbour. Fronted by a Statue of the Robert Burns rumoured to have written the Selkirk Grace ( "Some Hae meat ...." ) when he visited the Isle estate. This castle crowns the historic centre of the town and has all the intrigue you would want, it even has a spyhole behind the hearth in the Great Hall. A wee boys dream castle. .

“Another great castle to visit”
Reviewed 21 November 2011

right in the centre of the town it is easy to get to and well worth a visit. I would recommend getting the Historic Scotland Dumfries & Galloway Explorer Pass which allows you to save money on admission to 9 top historic attractions.

“Interesting insight”
Reviewed 16 July 2010

A commanding castle in the middle of Kirkudbright, not large but interesting, the kids were entertained by the Historic Scotland quiz and they got a sticker at the end so that's all that matters to them.

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 21 September 2009

Interesting place to visit if you find yourself in Kirkcudbright. There isn't lots to see, but it is well presented, and unusual as it is an example of a castle that was principally a residence rather than a fortification. Kirkcudbright is a quiet, but very pretty town with a small marina.
