“Superb site”
Reviewed 1 August 2014

Just had 12 nights at Solway View. Excellent site, hot clean showers, superb pitches and very helpful owners. Mostly quiet, no loud music or rowdy groups though play area can get just a little noisy, but children do have to play. Ideal family site.
The views are stunning across the Solway, and there is ample good walking nearby. Cairnsmore of Fleet and Merrick worth climbing though do need a car to get there. Close to a rocky beach, but great just to sit and read, with other beaches within walking distance.
In the next field a local is developing his falconry business, and it was great to see barn owls and his eagle owl. There was no noise from this business and it blended perfectly with the location. Plenty of wildlife to enjoy, with hares running around the site rather than the usual rabbits. Deer can be seen in the woods.
It is a bit of a trek to the shops, Kirkcudbright is about 4 miles away and only has a small Tesco/Co-op, so do need to stock up, can't just nip down the road for a pint of milk.
So, the crucial question........would we come here again? DEFINITELY! This is a 5* site.

Stayed two nights end July 2014 with toddler, rained quite a lot so used the indoor cooking facilities which was so handy, pitch no 20 was huge, play park for kids, quiet scenic peaceful, wee coved beach through the forest, definitely will go back, hot showers and wc areas pristine.

Stayed 2 nights. Nice friendly helpful owner. Wigwams have all you need and are very cozy with large space beside and BBQ area and bench with great views towards the sea. Only problem is you have to get up early to get in the shower as I feel there are not enough for so many people and on the first morning there was a queue.

Stayed here for a weekend camping trip and what a delight to stay here. We stayed on a tent pitch with electric hook up and could not believe how big the pitches are. We pitched two tents and still had plenty room for our car and space to sit and relax. The views are something else, great view out to the firth. Really enjoyed our stay, would recommend if looking to stay in the area and will defo return.

Brilliant campsite. We just returned from 4 nights in one of the wigwams and it was one of the best holidays we've had.
The wigwams are brilliant- far bigger on the inside than they look- we easily slept 3 (wriggly) kids and 2 adults. Plenty of room for all of our "stuff" too. The campsite was fantastic for the kids (aged 10,8,6) with lots of room to run around as well as the great wee playpark. The handy cook house was perfect for quick cooking or washing up, though we were lucky with the weather and made full use of the campfire facilities!
But the thing that makes the site so good is how clean and well organised it is- the toilet block is immaculate! And easy to shower multiple kids too. We've stayed at a good mix of sites over the years and this one wins hands down for cleanliness, truly outstanding.
We hope to be back!

We camped here for 5 nights following recommendation from friends. The owners were friendly and helpful. Our pitch was the biggest we have ever had and included a fire pit and a picnic table. Most of the pitches had a great view over the Solway and were very large.

There are two indoor kitchen areas, one with tables, hobs and sinks and the other with the addition of a freezer. Showers and toilets were immaculate with lots of hot water. A play area for children were at the rear of the site.

A walk through the field brings you to a rocky beach and a few minutes further on there is a sandy beach.

A lovely well spaced out site with friendly people. I would not hesitate to recommend this site and we will return in the future.
