“Utter tranquility”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 26 July 2014

We've just had 4 nights in Westwater Lodge. The welcome by Martin and Sharon was great and the cottage was very comfortable. What really made the stay for us was the utter tranquility and lovely gardens, we came away completely relaxed. The surrounding area is lovely and the choice of food shops in Castle Douglas was good. The weather was too good/hot for us to rush around sight seeing but the deck was great to sit out on and read.

We had a wonderful few days at the Waterhouse in June. The house and gardens are truly delightful. Martin and Sharon gave us a really warm welcome and we shared a lovely meal with them on our last evening there. We decided to take the opportunity to try out naturism for the first time and it was liberating. It's by no means compulsory though, its just an option if the idea appeals to you and the gardens are very private so there is no one else to see. Oh and there's no midges to worry about either.

Room Tip: We chose the waterhouse which looks straight out onto a delightful garden and pond, it also has the...

Really enjoyed our honeymoon stay in this beautiful Eco house with a stunning garden which can be appreciated from the hot tub. Anyone who likes being close to nature will enjoy this place, lots of birds and other wildlife visitors to the garden and the house is very well appointed as well.

We stayed for 3 nights in April and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. There was plenty do in the surrounding area but we chose to spend most of our time in the lodge enjoying the peace and quiet (and the hot tub).
The weather was excellent and the clear nights gave us a perfect view of the stars!
No phone signal, TV or Wifi - a total escape.
The herd of cows which frequent the neighbouring field provided great amusement!!

The Waterhouse is a fantastic place to stay if you want peace and relaxation. Perfect if you just want to curl up with a book by the woodburner and watch nature outside the window or if you want a base to come back to after a day exploring the surrounding areas. Martin & Sharon are lovely hosts who make their guests feel very welcome. The garden looked great even at this time of the year and must look stunning if you are lucky enough to get a booking in the summer.

We have stayed at The Waterhouse numerous times, but this time we decided to stay at the owners other accommodation, Westwater Lodge.

It was very cozy and homely. The logs fires were just wonderful.

Staying here is ideal for families as the size of the property mean the kids were able to run freely and they also loved playing in the conservatory.

The garden is great, and again the kids loved running about exploring nature.

The views from the conservatory were beautiful...watching & listening to the birds on the decking is really peaceful.

We loved it so much, we have already booked for our next visit for New Year.

My husband and I spent our 10th wedding anniversary here. We had such a brilliant time. The gardens are truly magical. The accommodation is wonderful and it just blends into the landscape perfectly.

The owners Martin & Sharon are some of the nicest people we have ever met.

We would recommend The Waterhouse for a place to stay.
