“Great Stay”
Reviewed 28 March 2014

Just returned from 1 night DBB at this lovely hotel. Receptionist was very friendly and our room was spotless and comfortable. We had dinner in the bar and it did not disappoint, food was first class and huge portions. Ian ( the barman) noticed that my husbands pint looked a bit flat and he
Replaced it right away, all the staff were warm and friendly and we would definitely be going
back for a stay again.

Stayed here for 1 night on the way up to Edinburgh. This is the second time we have stayed here, it is a little bit tired in some areas but both times we have found the staff really pleasant and friendly. We liked the fact the the hotel was warm and cosy through out as we always seem to visit Scotland in winter. The breakfast area is in the conservatory with lovely views onto the grounds and a real log fire burning. Breakfast was great which was one of the reasons we chose to stay again. There was abit of a mix up with the bill as they charged us for breakfast but apologised immediately when I told them we had booked b&b. People can make mistakes, as long as they deal with the problem well I am happy.

We spent last Friday at the Moffat House Hotel and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We had a very friendly welcome at reception. Our bedroom was spotless and comfortable. We went for dinner which was delicious and although I had the lighter option, the portion size was huge!! We had a superb breakfast next morning and again, it was great. We cannot commend all the staff at Moffat House highly enough. They are a credit to the owners. We are looking forward to returning to this lovely hotel situated in a beautiful location and felt that the Groupon deal we had certainly gave unbelievable value for money.

Booked on-line for a 2 person 1 night stay. Hotel nicely located in town centre with ample parking available. Warm welcome from the receptionist on duty. Room 2 at the front of the hotel, although adorned with period features, is sadly in need of a refurbishment, especially the dated bathroom. Cleanliness of the room was in question, mildew spores a plenty on the internal window panes, musty smell in the bathroom. Reading other reviews there are refurbished rooms within the hotel. Breakfast was pleasant enough, taken in the conservatory, with good local produce on offer. I wouldn't be happy to site any wedding guests of mine in the aforementioned room. However, fair value for the price paid (less than £50) for a night's stopover and a good breakfast.

Room Tip: No lift within the hotel.

I stayed here twice on the way to and from Cornwall from the Highlands. The first time I was in room 3, on the first floor, with a four-poster bed. Comfortable and spacious, with good shower over the bath. On the return journey I was in room 6, second floor - newly refurbished, reasonably swish. However, when I tried to shower at 10pm there was no hot water - a call to reception confirmed that it had run out because the hotel was nearly full. I was advised to wait half an hour - which worked. It seemed like a known problem - and so one that should have been fixed.

The building's grand and lovely, with some period features in the rooms, but there are some strange hangovers from previous refurbs - the door handles in room 6 are more industrial than anything, and the radiant heater in the bathroom is retro in a not particularly appealing way; the wall-mounted clock radio in 3 seems to function only as a clock and a 70s throwback.

However, I can't fault the staff or their service: room service was quick and efficient, the food and delivery reasonably priced. Full Scottish breakfasts were freshly cooked and served quickly, with plenty of good coffee.

Location-wise: bang in the middle of Moffat, and about three minutes off the M74. Couldn't get much handier.

Room Tip: Room 3 (first floor) has a four-poster bed and a good shower. Room 6 (second floor) is newly refurbi...

Excellent portions on the Sunday carvery and there must have been a good half side of beef on my plate. Bits were overdone and the veg had been out about 15 minutes too long but very tasty and super service.
Kids were fine and the staff were very good with them.

The location is beautiful and the building looks lovely, inside is what you would expect and I could imagine sitting in the bar by the open fire all afternoon.

Well worth a stop off.
