Ashley House was the one and only place that did not have our rooms ready on arrival, we had booked 3 rooms for 3 couples. We were able to leave our bags while the rooms were made up. We walked to a nearby castle for a tour (Broughty Ferry Castle), then out for dinner. Ashley House is an easy walk to the downtown area stores and restaurants. Darren (the owner) was very helpful, he called the golf course (St Andrew's) to arrange rental clubs. After our evening out we were surprised to find out that one key opened both the front door and our room - being curious tried the key in the other guest room doors (we had 3 rooms), amazingly the same key opened all 3 rooms! Breakfast was very good, sleeping was very comfortable (despite being located on a very busy road). Overall the Ashley House was ok, service was good and the breakfast was hearty - just don't leave valuables in your room!

Stayed here before going to an agility competition with my labrador. Owner was very welcoming. Room was cosy and comfortable and I had a great nights sleep. Had a very tasty sausage sandwich to set me up for the day - could of had a full scottish breakfast if I wanted it though. Re-fills of orange juice available! would recommend!

our arrival, at 4:30pm, was greeted at the door by Darren and we were told our rooms were not ready yet but we could put our bags inside and he would just hoover around them no problem. Darren gave us directions for a lovely dinner at a local restaurant. On our return we where asked to fill out our breakfast orders and given our key, which fit our room and the front door, also every other room`s door. Breakfast was hearty Scottish fare with free range eggs, which made for an orange colored scramble. Start at 7am and done for 8:30 got us on our way early so Darren could go for his run. This was the poorest rated B/B of our two week trip.

We stayed here for one night, very welcoming owner, nice room & comfortable bed.
Breakfast with many choices is excellent. The house has still most of its original features.
Some of the facilities needs updating, like TV/DVD equipment, which is outdated, and complicated to operate.

Would book again, but would prefer a room at the back of the building, as the main road in front of the house is rather noisy.

Room Tip: The family room at the front of the building can be a bit noisy due to loaction at main road.

I really felt as if I was a nuissance to the owner who never bothered to introduce himself. He'd been out running and even though it was already well in the afternoon, my room wasn't ready yet and he went to make my bed in his sweaty outfit.
The sheets had been washed with a scented product but it was a horrible stench that came from the bedding. The headboard had a huge stain on it as if someone's skull had been bashed in.
There was barely one bulb for lighting in the bathroom and the little light above the mirror didn't even work. There weren't enough towels and the bath didn't have one of those little carpets to keep you from slipping when taking a shower.
Location was terrible and the owner didn't bother to point me towards the beach or restaurants or any proper sights in the area. The only thing he could recommend was a nearby castle for which he used a three year old leaflet.
The car park can barely fit three cars, especially since the owner won't put his out on the street. His reason was that the car can't be closed with remote control and is old.... He also hadn't expected mine to be 'as big' as it was even though I've never been required to give that sort of information. To my personal standards, a Nissan Juke isn't a big car.
Breakfast has several options which is nice but you can't even take your own juice.
I was there for a five night stay but only put up with it for two nights.

Stayed here for 1 night on a work trip. Very warm welcome on arrival, room was very comfortable and clean. The bathroom was large with a big roll top bath. Ideal location for walking out for something to eat and a stroll to the beach is very pleasant. Best of all the breakfast was first class. I know where i will stay on my next trip to Dundee.
