Best Western Queens Hotel
Ranked #18 of 28 Hotels in Dundee
Reviewed 16 June 2014

This hotel epitomises Best Westerns , could be really great but falls just short.
The queens is a grand Gothic looking building in the town centre and is perfectly placed for most things, and it has loads of ( barrier controlled) parking .
Rooms are fairly typical of a Best Western , at least a decade out of fashion, but comfortable and clean ( mine did have a dirty towel hanging on the bathroom door though!, staff were very apologetic).
WiFi was flakey to say the least, but my colleague reported that his room worked fine, so its a lucky dip.
Breakfast didnt start until 8.am at weekends and we needed to be at a conference by then, we were initially offered a continental room service but the manger intervened and offer a 7,30 chef service, very good of him and very welcome.
Breakfast is very good, great home cooked ham on the continental and a very good full cooked offering.
its a grand building that probably deserves a little more, after all Churchill used it in 1908 as his constituency base when during an election campaign.
Dundee is not spoilt for hotels, maybe that how the Queens manages

Stayed here 4 nights in June 2014. The room I stayed in was clean and modern however the public areas the lobby, corridors reception etc are quite dated.
Breakfast was excellent. Great continental choice. Great hot choice too with eggs cooked to order. Probably the best poached eggs I have ever eaten.
Staff all really friendly and polite. Great location right in the middle of the city.
One thing I would say which is nothing really to do with the hotel but the seagulls there are a total menace. If like me you have to have the bedroom window open while you are asleep and you're a light sleeper, take some ear plugs!

Yes- it is a bit old fashioned but the rooms are clean and staff polite and helpful.
Good location in the city centre - prices seem to vary from £50 to £90 which is too much - so check out prices at other hotels in the centre

Friendly staff, very welcoming. Decor slightly dated around the hotel but very clean and food was of high quality. Nice and close to the shops and a very relaxed atmosphere. Rooms were kept neat and tidy with ample towels and we were well looked after.

The Queens is a delightful traditional Scottish hotel lovely room and public areas very spacious.
Restaurant and bar staff helpful and friendly
Food was lovely in the restaurant and served very nicely.
Excellent in every way

Room Tip: I had a room on the corner of the building large and spacious with a double aspect.

Tired and worn furnishings. Broken mattress in our room, and we had to be moved for one night. Managerial staff indifferent to problem, indeed seemed annoyed with us that this had been brought to their attention. They claimed it was too late at night to fix the problem, it was 6p.m.! No apology or compensation, not the level of service we expected from a Best Western Hotel. Very disappointing indeed.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms at front of hotel, very noisy.

I booked a 4 night stay at the Queens Hotel (online) for my mum when she traveled to Dundee to visit me at the university. The nightly rate was great. The rooms appeared to be very clean and comfortable. The staff was very welcoming, professional, and accommodating. One evening we enjoyed tea at the "Nosey Parker" (restaurant attached to the hotel), and it was absolutely delicious. This hotel is also in an excellent location. It's just across the road from the University of Dundee, and within a short walking distance to the town centre, university accommodation, train station, etc. I certainly would recommend this hotel to others that are planning a visit to Dundee.
