“Faulty Towers”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 November 2013

Booked Hotel on line as my friend was staying the night, asked for card details to reserve the room. When I arrived checked in asked if I should pay, and was told to pay in the morning. Room was nice, large room with Sofa, but dated, tv had limited channels and bathroom cold, owner showed mw to room, got her life story about her selling next year, and who was taking over. Ate out that night as I do not like spicy food, was asked to leave list for breakfast, which I did. In the morning it was still lying there, no staff on duty, my friend who was on a different floor said the place was very noisey and you could here everyhting through the walls!!.
At breakfast we were asked what we wanted, again. We had to aske for milk, butter, and options were limited, the hot breakfast came and there was one only of the items asked for even although we did not want other options, the bacon tasted deep fried. I went to check out, and to raise my concerns and it was the same person who served/made/delivered the food, explained all the staff had not turned up, so I would need to call later to make my payment. When I did I was informed my payment had already been taken, even although I wanted to pay with a different card, I explained and felt I was being scalded for complaining ( Sandra ) said the food was nothing to do with her and she ws pass on my comments, never received a call or expalnation from anyone, shocking customer service. A week later still not had any receipt, had to call, one again got a long winded explanation. Needs shake up.

Room Tip: Room 4, or first floor only

A couple of years ago we stayed at this hotel in room 1 and it was a lovely stay. This visit we were given room 4. The walls were all marked, there was a smell in the room, one window was taped closed and the blind didn't come down. One bedside light didn't work, and the plumbing needs serious attention. The noise when flushing was not restricted to our room either as we could hear other toilets making the same awful noise. When we told the lady at reception about the light she said that she wasn't going to get a maintenance person out for one item. She also told us that she was retiring next year and so perhaps this is why this hotel has gone downhill. It's a real shame, it's a lovely old building and could be so nice. The restaurant attached catered breakfasts and was really good apart from the last morning, where everything was overcooked and greasy. I would NOT stay at this hotel again, even though it's close to the centre.

Room Tip: I don't know if all the rooms have gone downhill but Room 1 a couple of years ago was clean and...

Stayed here for 1 night only (thankfully) because we couldn't get anything else booked in Dundee. Wouldn't want to go back! Reception area is a joke, untidy and unwelcoming. Our room, like rest of hotel, was in need of a serious makeover. 'King size' bed was 2 singles shoved together. Windows didn't close properly, which was nightmare close to a business dual carriagway. The place was, to be blunt, untidy and badly run down. Easy to feel sorry for old lady (owner) on reception but, ultimately, she is the one taking your money to stay in a very poor hotel.

my partner and her mother stayed at this hotel for 5 nights last week , she was a bit concerned about some of the reviews but after the end of their stay there was nothing but praise for the way they had been looked after, this place is quirky but good value for money, we will be staying there again the next time we are up in Dundee.

Got to hotel at 15:30 with elderly woman on cloakroom like reception.Started to check me in then answered phone to engage on taking another booking. Stood there like a lemon for some time and having walked from Arbroath didn't want to hang about. She eventually asked client to call back. Noticed a sign on desk saying reception open at 3pm so good job I didn't turn up earlier. Was then shown up to room 9 which is first floor towards back of hotel. Owner led us to room explaining how she is selling up next year to the people who now have the restaurant. The previously card swipe doors have now had yale locks fitted instead. Initial impressions of the room- it was ok and looked to be recently refurbished. Twin beds with feather quilt, although it was just a thin sheet on the mattress, it was incredibly comfy. Bathroom was a small narrow affair with(plastic floor tiles!) but did the job although pedestal too close to toilet. Thought shower might have been iffy as it was a mixer bar,but worked well with plenty of heat and pressure. Freeview TV didn't pick up half the channels, even after I re-tuned it... needs another aerial or re-pointing. Only problem was with noise. The metal exhaust vent from the kitchen runs right up the wall outside the bedroom window, so for the hours of operation drones on and on.. possible to get used to though. Biggest problem was a door constantly slamming somewhere downstairs (something to do with restaurant I should imagine that slammed that hard, it shook the room and made the tea cups chatter. Poorly soundproofed building with bathroom noises carrying. Got a take away pizza from downstairs to have in room as a lot cheaper than having it there. Tossed keys over reception on checking out as it was 08:30 and reception not yet open.

Room Tip: Book a different hotel, or have good quality ear plugs with you

out of town , dreadful facilities, no available staff , no restaurant ,no hot water etc. do you need any more ? I certainly would not recommend this place to my worst enemy the only saving grace was the price ,but even that was not justified

Room Tip: do not go !

The lady who checked in was very nice and showed me room 2, good size room and bathroom. Explained the noisy toilet flushed that the restaurant wasn't, yet open. The bed was two mattresses pushed together.

Recommend Tay View hotel for food which was OK. Breakfast was very quiet time but food was good. Would return for another stopover as lady was very helpful.
