Although booked only a day before, we felt really welcome. As the location is hard to find the excellent directions of Barrie were perfect. The room was a suite, very nice. One of the best views ever, and perfectly cooked breakfast.

We had a wonderful stay with Barrie and Olwyn. The house was lovely, the surroundings very pretty and our hosts made us feel right at home. Chef Matt prepared us a fabulous dinner, best we had during our trip. The whole had a unprecedented 007 feel, something you have to experience yourself to get it. Don’t miss it!

Duntrune House is more like a small castle than a house. The beautiful setting and wonderful hosts made it a real treat to stay there The in-house dinner chef is also five star. Good sized rooms with plenty of antique furniture. The location is just outside of town, very quiet but with good access to major roads. There is even bus service and a new train station being constructed in Dundee.

This is a place (including its hosts) that you have to see and experience to believe.

What more can we say! Great accommodation, wonderful food and brilliant hosts.
Our main aim on this 7 day holiday was to research Family History, Olwyn and Barry gave us lots of invaluable advice and help. Barry cooks a great full Scottish breakfast and their Chef, Matt made us superb dinners, as Sue has Coeliac disease they all went out of their way to accommodate her. We had a wonderful time, thank you Olwyn and Barry.

From any angle this large home is impressive as were our charming host and hostess Barrie & Olwyn. Everything possible is done to ensure their guests are comfortable, well fed and aware of the wealth of interests in the surrounding area. The history of the house itself is noteworthy The leading staircase is reminiscent of a film set and the many interesting collections throughout the house reflect years of tastful choice. Bedrooms are very well appointed. Comfortable beds with electric blankets, excellent hospitality trays and not only very soft robes in the bathrooms but full size quality toiletries too. We made the mistake of not dining in-house and this will be rectified on our next viisit. I would unreservedly recommend a visit to Duntrune if you are fortunate to be in the area. You certainly will not be disappointed. Inclement weather prohibited us from enjoying the gardens but when the sun shines they must be beautiful.

We stayed for two weeks, using Duntrune House as a base to travel all over Scotland. The place itself is a wonderful old Scots Baronial style home, which still retains the feel of a home rather than a hotel. The formal rooms are impressive but welcoming, and Barrie and Olwyn go out of their way to make you feel welcome. There are all sorts of nice touches like the bird and plant books in the hallway for the nature-lovers. While we were there, the garden was visited regularly by pheasants, various finches, and even a woodpecker!

The house itself is situated in gardens on a hill overlooking Dundee and the Tay amidst a small wood. A ha-ha means the view from ther benches under the majestic trees in front is uninterrupted and the setting itself is beautiful. Breakfasts were large and included gems like Arbroath 'Smokies'. I would highly recommend Duntrune to travellers wanting a warm and hospitable home from home in an idyllic location.

Room Tip: We stayed in the self contained flat, but saw the other rooms, and wouldn't hesitate to stay in...

The house is an early 19th century Laird's mansion with stone floors and a wonderful stone staircase.
Although there was nothing over the top about the wonderful hospitality provided, we could have been nowhere but in Scotland. The owners made us feel immediately at home as indeed we did share their home. Our first night we had a wonderful meal with Barrie and Olwyn and Olwyn's sister and brother-in-law, and then retired to the sitting room to sit and talk over a roaring wood fire. Do be sure to ask for a meal from their chef Mathew de Franco.
Excellent comfortable bedrooms and beds, and a typical Scottish breakfast - I loved the haggis and Helen enjoyed the porridge.
