We rented the property for a long weekend to celebrate my parents' golden wedding anniversary. We had 20people for dinner and managed to accommodate them all at the dining table and in the drawing room afterwards. Everyone commented on how warm and welcoming the house is and those who stayed over slept well in very comfortable beds.
The kitchen is very well equipped with more than ample plates, glasses etc and all the other kitchen items one has at home, but that are often absent in holiday properties. Two dishwashers makes washing up easy and three fridges mean there is plenty of room to stock up on food.
We did not have good weather but still walked in the beautiful grounds and I can imagine that at a better time of year they would be spectacular.
All in all I cannot recommend this property enough.
Simon and his family are very welcoming and go out of their way to make your stay comfortable. It was also a pleasure to find out about the history of the castle and the family that has lived there. If you have a dog he will love it there, the grounds are great for dogs and kids to explore, if you can try the fishing!
Thanks for a great stay
A group of 11 of us booked the castle for the week over Easter. We all had high expectations and the castle 110% exceeded our expectations. The kitchen had every possible utensil, pot and pan needed for a large group and the Tesco is very close. The grounds are amazing and the views from the drawing room were fantastic. All of us could have spent the rest of our lives there. I highly recommend renting this place if you can!
Have just had the most wonderful long weekend stay to celebrate my Nephews 21st Birthday at this marvelous property.
The rooms and facilities here are amazing. With a well equipped kitchen and dining room wonderful comfy beds in bedrooms that are so unique - so many things to see around the Castle 3 days was not really long enough. Enjoying dinner in the great dining room then going to the drawing room with a glass of wine in front of a roaring fire what could be more special. Set in wonderful countryside just outside Kilmarnock it is like walking into a smaller version of Downton Abbey (only its a 'do it yourself' ).
The owners Adity and Simon (or should I call them Laird and Lady Laird which is their official title) could not have been more helpful even giving us a guided tour round the whole of the castle. If you want a most memorable stay that is completely different then this is definitely the place to go.

We have just reuturned from Craufurdland Castle having spent a week there with friends (16 of us aged 8 to 50). Simon, Adity and their children were brilliant. Simons tour of the castle, including part of their own quarters, brought the place to life and made us appreciate that not only were we in a beautiful setting but also we were sharing the Craufurds home and history. We played sardines, absolutely brilliant, lit the fire and relaxed. There are plenty of places to eat near the castle if you dont want to cook, the chinese delivers! and the Ayreshire Outside Caterers did us proud for our celebration night. The castle was very easy to find, travelling in the area was good and there are lots of places to visit. We hope to return in the future. Thank you SImon Adity and girls.

Celebrating a good friend's 50 th...can't imagine a better place to do it. Space, scenery and incredible history. A welcoming feel with genuine credentials. I even had a go at fly fishing!
Thank you Adity, Simon and Alex.
A truly remarkable part of the world in a scenic location straight out of 'The Hound of The Baskervilles'.
The family that owned the castle were always at hand when ever needed and were fantastic with our son who was a couple of months old. Nothing was a problem for them, they even gave us a guided tour of the house, extensive grounds and the depths of the family history, as well as letting us borrow their buggy as we couldn't get our up to Scotland from Cardiff.
The kitchen facilities were impeccable.
The grounds themselves managed to be remote yet also close enough to shop like Tesco and even Kilmarnock centre to walk to.
We took a day out to both Glasgow and Edinburgh which were easily reachable from Kilmarnock station.
Wellies and umbrellas are provided in all shapes and sizes, amongst many other things such as torches to explore or night time strolls. It's these little touches that gave our stay a truly homely feel, and made us feel like 'The Laird of the Manor' so to speak.
Fully recommended. Why leave Britain?
