The hotel is dated and tired, but quite comfortable. It is better described as a guest house/hotel, then there would be less expectations.
The rooms are well serviced although there are no hairdryers. Bathrooms are a reasonable size.
The TV has a few channels that work.
Wifi only works in the reception area.
Because it is a small hotel it cannot afford full time reception who have to multiskill, but thats ok once you understand. They leave a door open until 10 pm for guests, you may have to go behind the reception desk and get your key.
We found the staff very nice happy to assist. The breakfast is adequate the chef was happy to modify the English breakfast. Continental is available.
We had dinner one night which was ok about normal Scottish standards.
We have stayed where a hotel had weddings and birthday parties it is disconcerting, especially with noisy music and guests.
Such an establishment must let guests know in advance. I would hesistate to stay under such circumstances.
Otherwise it has a good location 10 minutes walk from the cbd and a bus station.
Plenty of parking and its free unusual in Scotland.
It is about a 3.5 star hotel.More
