“A bit disappointing”
Reviewed 10 May 2014

Went here with a friend. We arrived at 7.30pm, band didn't start until 7.45pm, advertised to start at 7.30pm then stopped at 8.30pm then they played backing music/CDs until 10pm, despite the other band being advertised to come on at 9.30pm they didn't come on until 10pm.They were worth the wait, the female singer was great, she had a really good voice. They only played for 30mins which was disappointing. There was no atmosphere and if all the stag and hen parties hadn't been there it would have been empty. We had to get the train so left then. Would be a better idea to have the bands running consecutively as then there might be a built up of atmosphere. The drinks were quite cheap, which was a plus. Would visit again perhaps, but with a bigger crowd so we can make our own party. Could be a great place to go if they just sorting out the timings of the bands.

“Eat before you go!”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

I went here for a mean for a 30th birthday. The staff were quick to respond to my table reservation by email, giving us a table overlooking the danclefloor all night. However, we didn't stay there all night. The food was reasonably tasty but the portions were tiny - I managed to fit my entire dessert on a spoon. The supporting band was the same as the main band. The music was ok but it felt like we'd gatecrashed someones wedding reception. I definitely wouldn't have been happy to pay for entry! The drinks were expensive and the service was less than welcoming. I was extrememly disappointed having been to the Jam House in Birmingham which was MUCH better than the one in Edinburgh. My advice - don't go. Ever.

“There are far better shows.”
Reviewed 15 April 2014

The only description was shambles, no MC to speak of, an amateur night and a poor amateur night at that. There were 3 musicians, dressed in black, could have worn tartan waistcoats, which would have added a slight Scottish theme, but they did 2 spots and played their own music. The piper did a solo spot that was bizarre, very high pitched and constant wall of sound, one woman left at this point, it was painful on the ears. The dancers were reasonable but it looked like a practise not a show dance. Even the wee dancer looked embarrassed. The audience participation was the dancers and various others that went on far too long, this was supposed to be a show not a square dance. All this against a black back cloth with two bright lights pointed at the stage. None of my group said they enjoyed it, I think they were glad it was over. The acts would have been voted off "Scotland's got Talent"

“DO THE OWNERS ACTUALLY KNOW HOW THIS PLACE IS RUN ?”
Reviewed 24 January 2014

We went there only last week for dinner for 2 and entertainment? Both were BELOW ACCEPTABLE MODERN DAY STANDARDS !!! To start with the meal, the staff were totally uninterested in attempting to make us welcome. The starter arrived and was deposited onto our table without niceties,or even "enjoy your meal" comment. Within 10 minutes, our main course arrived BEFORE we finished our starter! and was deposited onto our table, even without an apology! When we started the main course(which was a very small portion,by the way) we immediately discovered that the frozen kind of mini chips given,we absoilutely overlaced with salt.Whilw we were eating this throughout our time in the restaurant, the duo on stage providing entertainment were blasting out their music, not allowing any diners to have a conversation, taking away any intimate atmosphere,in addition, the sound was totally distorted with excess base! Anyway, after meal,we went downstair,a disco started up with the same levels of distortion, also the dj did NOT say anything to the patrons by way of intros to the music etc. etc.. Then it was time to visit your bar,and purchased your OVERPRICED DRINKS. OVER FIVE POUNDS FOR A PINT OF GUINESS !! COME ON !!! This is a BAD PLACE to visit, will tell Jools Holland/all our friends to avoid this disgrace! Thankyou very much,Edinburgh Jam House.
