“Very good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 October 2013

This hotel has a friendly helpful staff. The room was large, bright and with a good large comfortable bed. The breakfast was delicious. The hotel is in a quiet area close to Haymarket train station and the bus which goes directly to Princess Street. A good hotel at a cheap price..

We really enjoyed our stay here in September. We got the room at a very inexpensive price, and really think this is the best place to stay if you're after a budget hotel. Don't go to the city centre Travelodges, this one is way better!

The rooms are very spacious, and clean. We would have preferred not to get the lower ground room during the first part of our stay - this has stairs access only. We got a top floor room for the second part of our stay - and this was much better. The view was also very good.

The LG room had been just cleaned with bleach so unfortunately the room was a bit smelly; but when we asked for an air freshener, we were given one. This was the only other hiccup, apart from the no lift for LG.

A £3.50 unlimited bus ticket for the day gets you to the city centre without much hassle. The Travelodge is conveniently just 5 - 7 minutes away from the Haymarket train station - which is itself just 7 minutes from Waverley should you be arriving by train. Our tickets were valid up to Haymarket despite having been purchased only up to Waverley.

One of the hotel employees saw us following our Google maps from Haymarket and stopped to ask if we were looking for Travelodge - extremely helpful and surprising! Good welcome for us to Edinburgh! All the other staff were also super helpful. I wish I had names to quote, but to the bald guy who gave directions, to the almost bald guy who was in reception, and to the two lovely ladies with that nice Scottish accent - thank you, you really were very helpful.

They let us store our luggage on the second part of our trip for free, as check in is only at 3 pm, but we had arrived early morning from our Highlands drive.

The bed is comfortable, as was the sofa bed for the extra person. On the whole, our first experience with Travelodge was excellent and I cannot recommend it enough.

We went on a bugdet sightseeing trip for 3 days. The check in (and check out) was the fastest we have ever experienced, and we had no problem with a hairdryer, or extra sheets(as my boyfriend doesn't like to sleep under anything thicker ;) ). The bed itself was, as in the folder, kingsized and kingsworth comfortable, so we didn't have problem falling asleep. The room was tidy, and spacious (ceiling about 4m high), but the floor wasn't vacuumed even once. However the bathroom was clean and fresh throughout our whole stay.

The staff was extremely helpful, and very friendly. Here we have to thank the nice Mr. that showed us where the Edinburghers go for a pint. Sadly, we didn't catch his name :(

The one grand minus of the stay was a 7.45 AM false fire alarm on our last day, which left a bad taste.

I would like to say how happy we were with our recent stay at the Travelodge Haymarket. We found the family room to be very comfortable and the room was cleaned regularly. We had booked the meal deal and breakfasts; the food was of a very good standard and staff always asked how the food was after each meal. All of the staff were pleasant and helpful. Would definitely use this hotel again and would recommend it to any traveller.

Great price and the hotel was clean and the staff very friendly and helpful. Close to the Haymarket train station and only 1.3 miles from princess street shops, this hotel is situated in a quiet area that's close enough to the main shopping area and the castle/royal mile tourist areas. Would recommend this hotel.

Visited this Travelodge on two separate occasions now, both times in groups of around eight people, first time we were all located on the first floor and the rooms were huge and exceeded our expectations, especially as we stopped for 3 nights which can be a challenge in budget hotels, the building is really smart and in a nice part of Edinburgh, the room we were in overlooked a park, the bedding was fresh and clean and the bathroom was also clean, now on my recommendation I returned with another group of friends several weeks later, upon arrival we had arranged a early check in for one room, (we had booked 4 rooms) to drop off our bags and head straight out, the room was the smallest hotel room I think I have ever seen, the window looked directly on to a dark brick wall, and the windows were unable to be opened, I was at this point embarrassed that I had recommended the hotel, I volunteered to take this room, the next day I checked out the rest of the rooms we had on the booking and I’m pleased to say they were much more generous, that is the only gripe is that the rooms are vastly different and if you are booking ask not to be in the basement trust me. Also there is no mobile coverage in the basement! I have read through a few of the reviews on here and I can see and agree with most of them, it’s like there is two different hotels in the same building, it’s still good value and I will probably use the hotel again.

The staff are really good, very helpful and friendly, the location is good if you travel by train it is a 5 minute walk from the station, it is also a short walk to Princes St where you are spoilt for choice regarding restaurants bars and shopping.

Room Tip: Avoid the basement rooms, cold and dark. The rooms higher up at the front of the Hotel are excellent...

We arrived a little early, the room wasnt ready but staff let us use the disabled toilet to change, it was disgusting!
Room was ok, bed was comfy, traffic noise wasnt that bad...however did not get any sleep from 4AM, this was due to a constant banging noise, it sounded like a neighbouring room slamming wardrobe doors, it wasnt, it was actually the windows banging! I spoke to staff but got no reaction from them only, oh ok!
Premier inn would have been much better.
Location was ok, 5 min walk yo main streets.
