Good (filling) food. Hungarian beer and wine. Friendly and helpful service and even a joke or two thrown in. What's not to like? Only word of caution - maybe ask, before ordering, how big the portions are, as some dishes are mighty hefty! :-) We had a great night in "Great Hungary" and I recommend you do too.

Simply splendid food and good portion sizes, we found that sharing two main courses was a feast.

Lesley chose the Bakonyi Sertesborda (£15.50), pork steak in a delicious mushroom and cream sauce. This dish comes with lots of noodles, so bring a good appetite!

I decided to try the Langos with sausage (£11.00). This is the traditional Hungarian fried bread, and as well as lovely slices of Hungarian sausage you also get sour cream and grated cheese to spread on it. Look on it as a large first course or moderate size main, depending on how hungry you are.

A bottle of Egri Bikaver (£21.50) was recommended as a wine match and worked perfectly.

Thanks to all for such a great evening, we'll be back!

Thank Graham C

This restaurant has a small, intimate, characterful atmosphere, the food is delicious and honest, and the staff are warm, welcoming and very patient with those unfamiliar with Hungarian food. This little gem is a heartily welcome addition to the Edinburgh food scene! The menu has a good variety of food without stretching the chefs to the point of having to cut corners. The wine selection is equally good – Hungarian wines generally delicious, they don't circulate much because they produce small volumes, but the quality is usually very good.

Our best meal in Edinburgh was here. Everything about it: service, atmosphere, menu, food, drinks - all were excellent. Having a limited experience of Hungarian food wasn't a problem - the man who served us was extremely helpful and gave us lots of advice and suggestions. If you like solid, filling, meat-and-potatoes type meals, you will love Hungarian food. We started out with the pancake filled with paprika chicken - creamy, savoury, delicious! Then on to langos (flatbread with savoury toppings) and roast pork with creamy mushroom sauce and homemade potato pasta. We wanted dessert (those looked amazing too) but the mains portions were so huge we had to satisfy ourselves with a couple of lovely Hungarian drinks to finish off. Wish we lived in Edinburgh - this would become a regular place for us. It's worth seeking this place out - recommended!

We went with friends to this unique and quaint restaurant. The host/waiter was very helpful in explaining the different food options. The food was flavourful and well presented. An unpretentious, relaxed dining experience which we all thoroughly enjoyed!
