Found out about Gil Dun from Rick Steves' Snapshot Scotland. It is a 10-minute bus ride from the Royal Mile. We lost our way to Gil Dun and I called to make sure they knew we'd be late. Gerard helped with directions. He also helped with dinner, getting on the right bus to and from the Royal Mile. We had the large family room on the first floor (American second floor). Beautiful room (see photo) amidst beautiful surroundings. Gil Dun did not require a one-night deposit when I made reservations on their website. Great breakfast and Gil Dun attracts a wide variety of international guests. We enjoyed many interesting conversations including an Irani movie star! I paid with a mix of cash and credit card since Gil Dun adds 5% for any plastic payment. Bus stop is right around the corner. Try the pear yogurt; it is unlike anything we have in the states.
