Description: We are proud to use the best fresh local produce from our Edinburgh's food suppliers. All our meat is Scottish and freshly delivered daily from our local butcher, our freshly delivered fish comes from a local Edinburgh fisher merchant. We cook all our meats in a Josper chargrill using lumpwood charcoal and we use our own special bastes to enhance the great flavour. All our pizzas are handmade using fresh ingredients and cooked in our wood stone fired pizza oven. The amazing restaurant and bar is relaxed and spacious, with a fantastic south facing outside seated area for 60 people with views onto the pentland hills. We have a large private dinning area and function rooms for events, large groups and weddings. Charwood is located in the south of Edinburgh in Fairmilehead, close to the Edinburgh City bypass. As well as our lovely bright and spacious restaurant, we can cater for private functions, groups and weddings in our luxury event suites. The function suite has its own separate entrance and bar facilities and with ample parking, the scene is set for a great event. Our newly refurbished bar is a great environment for you to relax and enjoy a local craft beer, a wine from our extensive wine list, or a crafted cocktail

We ate several times at this restaurant when it was Tusitala and although you could never have described it as fine dining, it was always reasonable food at reasonable prices. When we arrived for lunch today, we were surprised to find that it had changed hands and is now the Charwood Grill.
The menu is now predominantly pizza and steak, which is fine, but a bit much for lunchtime. I decided on the Carbonara, which is one of 3 pasta dishes on offer - it was fine, workmanlike was how my husband described it, and it came with no garlic bread etc. which is a bit lame. My husband had a goat's cheese pizza, which he said was fine, not really a ringing endorsement.
Service was slow and the staff seemed a bit stressed - there was a lot of frantic chatting and smashing of glasses.
I'm not sure how long ago the restaurant changed hands, so this may only be teething problems - we might give it another go if the situation arose, but wouldn't be rushing back.

Just had an excellent meal at charwood restaurant. I had the fillet steak and could not have felt any better eating it the josper grill really cooks it well!!! Tasted absolutely amazing! Had starters and main last time I went but saw the deserts looked ace so went for main and desert this time and although the haggis spring rolls are a starter to die for the deserts are something else!
Left feeling very satisfied, great waiting staff and atmosphere. Will definitely be going back for more steaks and would even consider booking a function.
Highly recommend this place. Don't normally write reviews but this one was a must!
Top marks charwood!!

First visit to Charwood after change in ownership from Tusitala.
Booked for a Saturday night but could only get a table in the function suite - dining area fully booked. A good sign I thought, but hope there is some atmosphere!
Same old decor, same old tables, same old atmosphere, oh oh! Surely something must have changed?
Similar menu with pizzas but range of steaks impressive. A new Jasper grill had been installed, to complement the pizza oven, especially for the steaks. Well, we scored here! The steaks come with a choice of bastes and sauces. My wife has the fillet with the standard baste, while I had the rib eye with the lemon, garlic and herb baste.
Both steaks were absolutely stunning. Some of the best we had ever tasted! I'd mark them 7 out of 5.
Unfortunately, the furniture and decor were from the last owner. Poor quality, 1 out of 5.
Service was great with a very chatty waitress. Not too quick but not slow. 4 out of 5.
Choice of beers good but wine list limited. 3 out of 5.
Unfortunately, because it had been so busy, the Jasper grill had been working overtime with steaks. The main dining room was shrouded in a BBQ type fog. Thank goodness we were in the function suite. Room for improvement but good steaks. Until the rest fixed, only an overall 3!

My wife and I had been to Tusitalla many times and always had a great meal. So when we decided to eat there, now it's Charwood we weren't sure whether we would enjoy it as much. We hadn't booked and didn't think we would get a seat but fortunately there was plenty of room. The waitress who welcomed us was very friendly and attentive during the meal. For starter we shared the mixed meat platter. Very nice. For mains my wife had a burger and I had a taste of it. Superb! I had the calzone which was large to say the least. It was packed full of flavour however I really didn't think I would finish it. But my man vrs food instinct kicked in and within half an hour the plate was clean. They will box any leftovers for you if you wish but I didn't want give in. It's not in my nature. The food was also very reasonably priced. We had a lovely meal and I would certainly recommend Charwood. I suspect that as it's reputation grows booking ahead will become essential.
