After a very average at best meal in David Bann's veggie eatery next door a few weeks ago we got speaking to group of youths outside this place who were raving about it, so went last night, lovely candle lit atmosphere/felt like you were a million miles away from the busy Royal Mile, had amazing 5 item meze main course which was so tasty, corkage is £3 so although main courses are not cheap, you can save money by taking a decent £4/5 bottle of wine(2 in our case lol). Waitress and waiter were charming and engaging, food fresh and loved that you got 5 items meze on a plate with bread as well/salad. Will be back, The only reason this did not score a 5 was the promise of seafood options on their website-and no seafood options when you get there-shame as I don't eat meat but I like fish., plenty of veggie options however.

This restaurant happened to be near our hotel in Edinburgh. The atmosphere is dark with lovely glass lanterns from Turkey. We were very happy with our plates of mezze. It's BYOB so there's no pressure to order drinks. It's hard to get beyond falafel, hummus, and gyros where we live so it was a treat. Service might be a little leisurely on a crowded night. One of the better deals in a fun but expensive part of town.

The food is great, the décor bohemian, the lighting subtle, the music "just right". Therefore, this should be a relaxing, chilled place to spent time with friends....but it's not! We were told on booking we could book at 6.30 or 8.30, so we chose 6.30. Every table downstairs was occupied and we got our food about 7pm. At 8pm we were still eating and drinking, when we had the bill dumped on our table and we were told we had to be out by 8.30. Every few minutes after that the waitress came to check if we had paid the bill. We felt harassed. We asked if we could have coffee, the waitress told us "no", as the table was booked at 8.30. Three tables had come in for the 8.30 sitting, but there were 2 tables empty! As no one was coming for our table, we stayed a little longer to finish our wine. At 8.45 the waitress told us the booking for our table had been cancelled and we could stay. We spend another £9 on coffee and very disappointing cheap Turkish Delight. When we left at around 10pm the other 2 tables were still empty.

How can this system be economical? Had we left when we were asked the restaurant would have lost our £9, and had no other customers. If the other 2 tables had not been chased out at 8.30, they might have gone on to spend more also. This system makes it unpleasant for the customer, as an hour is not enough to have a meal.

There was literally no-one else in when I visited with my daughter. She is vegetarian and most of the menu seemed to cater for her although there were other choices. That was fine and I was happy with the selection. The food didn't seem entirely freshly prepared though. It arrived very quickly which might suggest it was microwaved, however the platters of 3 mezze were tasty and filling.
Decor-wise, the place has a nice feel with traditional surroundings and low lighting accompanied by some unusual mixes of music! One big complaint was the temperature inside - it was freezing. We'd probably have stayed longer and spent more if we hadn't been so cold. We mentioned it to the waitress on the way out and she said they were closing down shortly for a month for a refurb. I hope it's to install radiators!
