Have just come back from an amazing weekend in Edinburgh made all the better by our stay with Wallace Shaw in his beautiful home. Book here if you want a weekend with personality rather than staying in a bland corporate hotel room! Wallace's home is full of art he has collected from all over the world and left us full of inspiration.

Nice touches included a selection of good books to read by the bed, bathrobes and luxury bath products. Wallace is a charming host - a pure gentleman full of interesting stories - and, to top it off , he rose at 5am to serve us breakfast before our early morning flight home to Dublin. Breakfast was delicous and included fresh fruit, croissants straight from the oven, granola, and fresh Italian coffee.

Last but not least, Leith is the perfect base for a weekend stay in Edinburgh - It gives a real flavour of the city rather than just basing yourself in the tourist district. Its a stones throw from the picturesque waterside and in the midst of the city's foodie district with several smashing seafood bars, Michelin star restaurants and gastro pubs close by.

We stayed at Wallace's the night before the Deerstalker race and it was a brilliant place to relax in front of the fire. Wallace is a brilliant host and has many a tale to tell. The whole atmosphere is calm and creative - LOVED the cardboard chairs in particular! The bedrooms were lovely and mine had what looked like an enormous set of wardrobes, but which actually turned out to house a shower, loo and basin - ingenious! Breakfast was yummy with fresh fruit, and we thought the little touches like truffles in our rooms were great. I would recommend unhesitatingly, and would definitely stay again - thank you, Wallace!

Spent a weekend in Edinburgh and really enjoyed my stay at Wallace. He's a wonderful, charming host and makes you feel completely at ease as soon as you arrive. Make sure you take a good look around his place, every corner has a story.

Wallace is certainly a gem and a great delight to share a glass of vino with! The sitting room with the fireplace was the ideal place to rest the weary feet. The host was welcoming and the spread in the morning was just amazing. Staying at Wallace's is like stepping into his life. Colourful and amusing!

Staying at Wallace’s Arthouse is a journey within a journey. Most of the objects in the house (including the linen!) come from different parts of the world, tell their own stories, but also make you feel at home at the same time. The rooms are bright and clean, making it a real temptation to stay in bed until late (but make sure not to miss breakfast!) or sit in the lounge listening to the music or read a book – you don’t even need to take one as Wallace has a very wide collection!
Wallace is welcoming and friendly. He will give you advice on what to see and where to go to discover the history, art and restaurants of Leith or take the 10 minute bus journey into central Edinburgh. A delightful experience, highly recommended!
Grazie Wallace!

I only wish that there was a Wallace in every city in the UK. With all the weddings that are happening at the moment and therefore lots of travel to all parts, we were after a comfortable, friendly B&B that didn't cost the earth and wasn't soul-less like many suggested hotel or B&B venues are.
The Art House and owner Wallace Shaw couldn't have been more friendly, comfortable and affordable. Whether it be a wonderful breakfast by morning or a whisky by night, we were made to feel right at home during out stay! We nearly stayed for longer due to the impending snow and we wouldn't have minded if it wasn't for work.
The room was huge with an ensuite bathroom and a perfect power shower.
Wallace was on hand to offer us any info we needed about the city and he really made sure we had a magical weekend.
I have already recommended Wallace's Arthouse Scotland to a number of people and we look forward to a return visit (probably in the Autumn with another wedding in Edinburgh!!)

You will find Wallace to be the consummate host. And if you stick around for breakfast (which you would be mad not too) you will find he is also the best of company. Go stay you will find the devil is quite literally in the detail, collections of Chinese tea pots, Italian cooking implements and chic, chic furniture. Wallace has shaped a space of easy and inviting taste a place that wraps its arms around you and gives you a big hug. Go alone or take someone you love and you will find somewhere you only half want to leave in the morning and soon want to get back to....enjoy.
