“Slowest service ever, without many smiles either”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

I went here yesterday to meet my family for a nice meal out, had an impression in my mind that it was going to be good as their brand has a good reputation.

Wish we had gone somewhere else.

Had to wait an hour and a half, yes ninety minutes before getting a single course of food. It was a little busy when we arrived, however there were lots of staff and within half an hour the place was half empty. The food was ok actually, which is the only reason their review is 2 and not 1 star. For the prices we paid you expect good, efficient and friendly service too, not just quality food.

We asked for drinks and had to keep reminding staff to bring them. We were not offered a high chair for our baby and we had to wait for ever for the bill and no one offered us coffees or deserts, although to be honest by the time we had finished it was long past the baby's bed time so we would have had to leave anyway.

I may pick up their oysters at a shop in future but I will not be going here again.

Funnily enough I saw a review from a friend this morning that said almost exactly what I just wrote - and that was from 2010, wondering if the place needs new management? Well yes it does!
I don't think we got any kind of friendly service either. Very, very slow and very impersonal. Edinburgh has a LOT of restaurants and a lot of experienced managers and floor staff so I don't really know what there problem is but I do know we won't be dropping two and half hours on them again.

“Great food and views”
Reviewed 3 July 2014

We had booked an early lunch on the last Monday holiday in May and it proved a good move. When we arrived at 12noon, the restaurant was almost empty and service was prompt. We had the Moules, Smoked Haddock and Haddock & Chips, with glasses of wine. The food was excellent and well presented. Weather was hot and sunny, with good view over Newhaven Harbour, though not many people taking the option of sitting outside, even in the sun. The restaurant quickly filled up and the 3 waiting staff were run off their feet trying to keep up with what was an almost full restaurant. As a result, our order for coffees took over 30 minutes to be served and required two prompts to the staff, which took the gloss off a pretty good meal.
Note that this is the priciest of the dining options around Newhaven Harbour (Prezzo, Brewers fayre and C Shack are alternatives), but the food is good, so we will be back.

“Great food - good value!”
Reviewed 29 June 2014 via mobile

The food was great! The oysters were particularly nice - one of the best I tried. The main course was also great. Overall - highly recommend! The only disadvantage is location - far from downtown, but it is certainly worth taking a cab - there are some good photo spots - old lighthouse, fishers boats, etc
