Neighbourhood: New Town
Description: The original Bombay cafes have almost all disappeared. Their faded elegance welcomed all: rich businessmen, sweaty taxi-wallas and courting couples. Fans turned slowly. Bentwood chairs were reflected in stained mirrors, next to sepia family portraits. Students had breakfast. Families dined. Lawyers read briefs. Writers found their characters. Opened early last century by Zoroastrian immigrants from Iran, there were almost four hundred cafes at their peak in the 1960s. Now, fewer than thirty remain. Their loss is much mourned by Bombayites.

Brilliant, buzzing atmosphere around the place! The quality of dishes are excellent and the level of attentive service is to match. Take advice from your waiter who will ensure you don't order too much food. Two couples, four starters and three mains with a selection of roti, naan etc; plus a nice bottle of Sauvignon Blanc and four large bottles of Kingfisher added up to £40 per head - top value for money in city centre! Highly recommended...we shall certainly be back.

Sooo good we are here twice and would have loved to come back. The lamb chops were amazing, as well as everything else we had!
Service was attentive. Do not miss the memsahibs mess. To die for!

We were able to book as it was lunchtime which was great. 12.30 Saturday lunchtime and it was buzzing already. Great service from Tommy who knew his way about the menus and was good fun. My daughter is gluten free and had a whole menu specifically gluten free, very cool. Food was very good. Will be back.

The family got together at the restaurant for a meal before our daughters go off to Glasgow and Newcastle. Food was lovely and the beer was cool. Service was excellent.

I would thoroughly recommend this restaurant, excellence food and service.
While we queued to get in, we were presented with complementary chai and salted lemonade, both were delicious.
We had the lamb samosas, Indian 'chip butty', Chicken Ruby and the Lamb special.
Along with the rice, nan bread and roti they were all excellent. We also had the Dishoom IPA beer which superbly complemented the food. Brilliant!
