Description: Secreted away on one of the quieter stretches of Easter Road is a sparkling jewel of Italian dining – Al Dente is quite simply glorious. The walls are covered with pictures of Italian movie stars and picturesque vistas and these evocative images, along with the tiled floor and simple wooden tables, imbue Al Dente with the earthy simplicity of old Italy. But do not be fooled by this rustic interior or the attractively affordable prices; this restaurant offers the finest food and the friendliest service. A roast pepper overflows with fat grains of arborio rice, subtle but vibrant flavours elevating homely fare to five-star standards. A similar trick is played with immaculately presented mains such as porcini mushroom risotto and chicken breast stuffed with asparagus and parmesan. The set lunch is fantastic value; that diners can enjoy two courses of locally sourced, seasonal food, beautifully cooked for only £7.50 seems almost preposterous, if wonderfully so.High point: Beautiful, affordable foodLow point: The shop front is not as welcoming as the staff within

I have heard about this restaurant and always wanted to try it - I was not disappointed.
I had a Bresaola Carpaccio to start with and their home made aubergine and ricotta ravioli served with butter and sage sauce, which was simply delicious!
My partner tried the broccoli flan with a beetroot reduction, and risotto with butternut squash and parmesan to follow, which she thoroughly enjoyed. It's nice to see there are Italian restaurants which serve different and exciting food.
Al dente is definitely is a different type of Italian restaurant. I would definitely recommended!

Fourth time at this Italian eatery and never had a mediocre dish yet. Graziano brings a little touch of Bari to Scotland. If you are a foodie it would be a sin not to sample some of these authentic delights.

Cosy but not cramped, I would recommend Al Dente to my food loving friends for sure. The staff are lovely. The owner is usually working front of house and really enjoys sharing his knowlege and having a good chat, or not if you'd rather be left alone. The food is fresh and full of flavour. The wine list is fine, but have a look at what he has on the shelves if you fancy something a bit special. Our only let down - the desserts were really not great. Will hopefully be back soon, and hopefully to try one of the Regional nights.

Al Dente is like one of those little treasures you find down a little side street in Naples or Rome. Totally unpretentious and certainly not in the gltzy marble palace style of the big city centre Italians, Al Dente is small and familiar with a good menu of freshly made traditional Italian food. The menu itself is never extensive relying on some relly well done staples augmented by what's freshly available that day or week. Being vegetarian isn't a problem because on the days where the menu has been a bit meaty Graziano, the owner, puts together something which hit's the spot. The wines are usually well matched to the food and they do really nice regionally themed menus. We've only had one average experience and that was a late booking on Valentines night where they ran out of the vegetarian main which had actiually been the most popular dish that evening so they made a starter up to main course level. Lots of appologies. `A hiccup rather than a problem.
