“great location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 November 2011

5 Minutes from the station which was great, on check-in I was informed I had been upgraded to a superior double. Was nothing flash and the view out the back of the hotel was pretty grim. The Hotel staff were helpful and polite but the bar was quiet with no atmosphere - but why stay at the hotels bar when there are so many to choose from locally.

The location of the hotel is ideal.....at one end of Princess Street and within walking distance of all the attractions. The car park at the shopping centre behind is quite handy (and you get a discount on car parking from the hotel reception when you check out if you tell them) but it's quite a long walk if your bags are heavy so suggest you unload at the front of the hotel and then move the car. The hotel is gorgeous inside...very modern and trendy but not intimidatingly so and all the staff were lovely. We didn't have breakfast there as it's quite expensive..we always prefer to grab something in a cafe anyway. The dinner was good but the service let it down just a little. My white wine was tepid so I asked for another one. The bread was cold and the butter was frozen which is disappointing in a restaurant like this. My main course was a little average but everything else was fine. I would eat there again.

My fiance and I enjoyed two great nights at the Apex hotel. The rooms are pure luxury, with king size bed and huge plasma tv with a beautiful view of Edinburgh. The room was beautifully clean and the bathroom brand new. Both evenings we went for a swim in the hotel swimming pool. Again, very clean and very relaxing. The hotel staff were extremely friendly, the receptionist on arrival was very helpful showing us places to visit and eat in Edinburgh city centre.
The room price was very good for the experience. However, the car park is another matter. We are happy to pay for car parking as it is the norm at most UK hotels. You are also pre warned by the hotel that you have to pay and given a discount coin at reception. But this is the most expensive hotel car park we have ever been on and even with the discount, it is still extortionate. This was quite a disappointment, but didn't ruin our lovely stay at this hotel.

Checked in very late and was given a wonderfully quiet room on the 9th floor. The bathroom was extremely large and luxurious with a beautiful tub and shower. The room came with complimentary cookies, chips, jelly beans, water and wifi. :) The lighting in the room was very subtle/subdued which created a relaxing atmosphere. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept on and the duvet, linens and towels were all spotlessly clean and of a superior quality. Staff at reception and the manager on duty were respectful, helpful and friendly. In short, a perfect stay- if only all hotels could be like this.
Well done.

Had a mid week break here to celebrate my birthday. Easy access from the station via the back door as advertised on their website, quick check in. Had a standard room which while it had no view (we weren't there to look out of the window!) had loads of space, good wardrobes etc, a great bathroom and very comfy bed.
The location is great - easy walk to well, nearly everywhere - Princes Street, George Street, up to the Royal Mile etc. And being just off the top of Princes Street, it was very quiet.
Would definitely stay there again.

We had a fantastic stay at the Waterloo Place Hotel. The hotel is a couple of minutes walk from Waverley Station and can be accessed from a side street. It has therefore easy access to all the main attractions in Edinburgh. The staff could not have been more helpfull throughout our stay. Our room was very clean and tidy with no signs of any wear and tear.It was quiet for a city centre location so a good nights sleep was ensured. We booked an inclusive package at elliots restaurant. The food was excellent, the only comment was that the choice was limited on the package and did not change throughout the stay. You can elect to choose the al la carte menu and deduct fixed menu price from the bill. Altogther a superb hotel which we hope too return to soon.

We spent our first trip to Edinburgh staying at the Apex Waterloo it was fabulous. From the moment we checked in to the moment we left the staff were all very friendly, efficient, helpful and always had a smile. We had an upgraded room to a superior and it was amazing, I have never had such a large, well equiped room and beauitfully decorated, we especially liked the photographs of Edinburgh and the booklet giving the Hotels history.
We ate in Elliotts Restaurant and the food was delicious. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel for a weekend break and would love to go back!
