Very easy to get to from Waverley Station without needing a taxi which is good as the tram works are still disrupting traffic flow..
Efficient check-in and friendly staff. Huge comfortable bed with quality linens. Bathroom nice and big with double size walk in shower as well as bath and nice toiletries.
Dinner and breakfast are both served in the dining room on reception level and were both very good. Breakfast was one of the nicest hotel ones I've had for a long while.
Walking distance to shops and bars etc. Good choice for a city break.

Centrally located in the Newtown, this hotel is good for business and pleasure. Restaurant is quite ok as well. Rooms are nicely decorated. Bed a bit soft.

I would definitely recommend this hotel, it is 5 minutes walk from the Royal Mile and Edinburgh Castle. The hotel very kindly upgraded our room to a suite and it was fantastic. The bathroom was huge with a nice big bath, the room was a good size and the bed was really comfortable. The hotel has been decorated very nice, the swimming pool/spa was small but very relaxing after a long day of walking. Everytime we ate in the hotel the food was very good and the staff were always friendly and helpful. I would stay there again if I was going to Edinburgh.

The hotel was clean and functional but very over priced in my opinion

Standard rooms are tiny. I was expecting a much larger room

The swimming pool is more of a hydro therapy pool without the features of one!

Breakfast was awful. We had to leave in the end after waiting 40 minutes. The order was taken wrong in the first place. Then it was corrected and given to the next table and then we had to ask three times where our breakfast was. We gave up in the end as had to leave for work. I complained to reception in check out and they did remove the charge ... But that's not the point

Dinner was ok. No more no less.

There is a lack of atmosphere to the whole ambience. The building itself is great and the location superb.

It isn't luxury high end and as such it is over priced at present.

No car parking facilities so guests have to feed the parking meters.

We booked this based on some reviews and were glad we did. On arrival we found there was a small problem (for us anyway) with our room. The management instantly dealt with it and we got an upgrade.

The rooms were very nice and comfortable. Good bathrooms and an Ipod dock which I always like in a hotel - I can't understand why this is so difficult for so many hotels. Towels were really soft and absorbent and the items in the room were great.

We used the spa (Steam room and sauna) and it was good to have access to them.

The only downside was that this the concierge was not always there and as such we struggled to get some information which was frustrating in a tourist town, hence the reduction in rating

Overall, very good

Room Tip: Don't get a lower floor room

This hotel was recommended by friends in the United States. We are glad we took their recommendation to book this hotel for our five night stay in Edinburgh. The location allowed us to walk to Old Town, New Town, and all major sights. Outside the hotel door are the old and enchanting Calton Cementery and Calton Park with views to the water. Our eighth floor rooms had views of historic buildings. Rooms and beds were comfortable with top-notch baths. The windows opened for fresh air while sleeping. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the hotel breakfasts good. When we return to Edinburgh, we will again book rooms at the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel. We are back in the States now, and we miss Waterloo Place and the beauty of Edinburgh.

Room Tip: Our eighth floor rooms had views of historic buildings. Many travel coaches pull up along Waterloo...

We stayed here for two nights in May. The location is very good, close to the Royal Mile and withing walking distance to the Edinburgh Castle. Our room was small but attractive with modern furnishings. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfasts were over-priced. I would stay here again.
