“Ideal base in Edinburgh”
Reviewed 20 June 2012

My wife and I spent three most pleasant days here, which is somewhat remarkable because it barely stopped raining throughout our stay. In light of the hotel's location, we were able to sally forth when the rain stopped and return when the rain again became too heavy, and so see a good deal of both the Old and New Towns while we had the opportunity. Furthermore. because of the hotel's proximity to Waverley station and coach pick-up points, we found it an ideal base for excursions out of town. Owing to the weather, we also found ourselves "eating in" rather than venturing out, and found the meals in both the bar and restaurant of a consistently high standard - the "house breakfast" is particularly recommended. Overall we found the staff particularly courteous and helpful, and our room was clean, pleasantly furnished, well-equipped and comfortable.

The Apex Hotel in Waterloo Place is conveniently just a short walk from Edinburgh Waverley station. We’ve stayed there twice and would return again. The rooms are a good size, comfortable and have modern bathrooms with both a large shower and a bath (plus rubber duck). The receptionists are friendly and helpful, the bar man was very efficient. Shame the seating in the bar was chosen for style rather than comfort.

Stayed for four nights at Apex Waterloo Place Hotel and had a great time. It was very easy to reach the hotel from the airport bus, it took just a few minutes even with heavy luggage. My room was not ready when I arrived in the morning, but when I came back a few hours later my bags had been taken to my room and I had been upgraded to a superior room. Both check in and check out was quick and efficiant and the staff were friendly and helpful.

The location is very good, close to shopping, both on the Royal Mile and in the New Town. All the major sights are also within walking distance from the hotel.

My room on the ninth floor was spacious and very nice. The room was quiet, except for Saturday night, when there was some noise from outside the pub across the street in the middle of the night. The bathroom was clean, spacious and had both a shower and a bath. The beds were some of the best hotel beds that I have ever slept in!

Breakfast was perhaps a bit pricey, there could have been more alternatives on the continental buffet. However, the food was good and the cooked breakfast also tasted good. Service at breakfast was also friendly and quick.

Would definitely stay here again and also recommend the hotel to others! I would ask for a room on the fifth floor or above, to avoid beeing on the lower floors at the back of the hotel, since reception is on the fifth floor.

Room Tip: Ask for room on a higher floor.

Six of us stayed here last weekend for my husbands birthday...all of us absolutely loved it! The hotel is set right at the end of Princes Street in a fantastic location, within walking distance of all the main Edinburgh attractions. It is a modern, clean hotel & the rooms are great, 2 couples stayed in the City Double Rooms & we got upgraded to a Superior Room, all rooms were clean, attractive and had everything you could want. The staff were friendly & helpful, we arrived early and as I'd already emailed them previously informing them of this they had 2 out of the 3 rooms ready for us. I cannot write this review without commenting on the beds & pillows...the comfiest I have ever slept on in any hotel I have previously stayed in.
Would highly recommend this hotel & will definitely be going back.

The Waterloo Place Apex really delivers on its promise of class and quality. I will never again stay at any of the once-great George St or Princes St establishments. This is the new kid on the block and it shows them all how it should be done!

The style is similar to the Q Hotels brand - modern chocolate browns, greys and greens and effortless cool design. Room extremely comfortable, clean and quiet. Food top rate. The cooked breakfasts (and there's a good choice) are not served across the counter but individually cooked and brought to your table. I had a kipper with an almost melt-in-the-mouth flavour and texture. Used the £10 voucher that advanced payment wins you to get a bowl of chips with aioli and a bowl of fishcakes with sweet chilli sauce from the bar menu. Which were again of impeccable quality and decent size. Add a drink and a coffee and that's not looking bad for a meal on the house!

Room Tip: Not the best hotel for views over the city. Just the best hotel.

We very much enjoyed our 3 night stay at this hotel. It is conveniently located very near the train station (note - there is a secret ground floor entrance that makes it very easy to get to and from the station), and it is close to all of the sights (Carlton Hill is directly behind the hotel). Our room was large, clean, and decorated in a very pleasing contemporary style. The flat screen TV was huge.

We had dinner one night in the hotel restaurant and were very surprised at how good it was. It is also a great deal if you go early enough to order from the price-fixed menu.

I would definitely recommend this hotel to others and stay here again ourselves.

We stayed 2 nights with a child. The staff were very helpful at check in. While our room wasn't ready, the staff was able to find a room for us and place a cot in the room fairly quickly for our child. While the standard room is small, the bed is extremely comfy and the bathroom excellently designed with seperate shower and bath tub. The hotel is located just a short 2-minute walk from the train station and just a few minutes walk to the central tourist attractions of Edinburgh. The hotel is a bit pricey, but is worth the price for convinience to the train station, quality and location to tourist locals.

Room Tip: Floor 5 is at street level, so for a view you would want a higher level room. Rooms on the inside of...
