“Just brilliant!”
Reviewed 26 November 2012 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here for her birthday in November. I booked a superior room and upgraded and the day to a deluxe. The hotel was 5mins from Waverley station and when we arrived first impressions were excellent due to the look of just reception. Check in was easy with brilliant staff and when we got to our room found we had been upgraded to the duplex suite. This was amazing, 2 levels, living area, kitchenette, small dining table and upstairs had a massive bed and the best bathroom I have been in in my life. Food at the hotel was excellent, we ordered room service the first night and breakfast both mornings was nice. The pool area is beautiful but unfortunately we didn't get chance to test the spa. All in all the hotel was amazing and the only negative I'll say is that the restaurant wasn't really big enough as there was a long queue for breakfast if you catch it at a bad time. A very minor negative on an overall excellent hotel. We'll definitely be staying again!

Spend two nights on a discounted break. Staff very friendly and efficient. Room and bed very comfortable but rather gloomy outlook on a wall five feet away.
Booked out at 11.00 am but had time to kill before evening train and it was raining heavily. Very pleased to find we had access to spa facilities for the rest of the day. Inclusive breakfast was superb the first day especially the omelette Arnold Bennet but on the second day we went down later and the AB omelette contained only a miniscule amount of smoked haddock and three elements of the full breakfast served on a red hot plate were amazingly stone cold.

This quality control error apart I can highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: I guess the voucher offer rooms will not be the best and there will be no option but to have a room...

Very clean and quiet accommodation next to Waverley station. The hotel is in a Georgian building, refurbished to an excellent effect, retaining the heritage features and style but also adding a modern and clean feel. I particularly enjoyed how quiet the hotel was, in spite of the central location, the in-house gym, which I used, and the restaurant that offers good food so you don't have to go looking. This is a particularly good hotel if you are visiting Edinburgh for work. There is also a small swimming pool where you can unwind. Staff are all very polite and helpful. Nothing is too much trouble but they also know when to leave you alone. Perfect balance. They also add to the classy effect. If you choose to stay here you are guaranteed to enjoy your stay.

Stayed one night here for a girls weekend away and had a great time. The staff were so friendly and helpful, especially the concierge. It's a great location and the rooms were good, with the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and a superb bathroom. Breakfast was very good - lots of choice, though beware the tea which seemed to be a trendy infusion rather than a good old tea bag! Two of our group were on level 5, which is the same as the reception and they found their rooms very noisy. The remainder were on levels 2 and 3 and it was wonderfully quiet, though two only had showers so worth checking when you book. We booked using one of the bargain internet companies and I do wonder whether you get the less desirable rooms!

Room Tip: Avoid rooms on level 5 and check that you have a bath as well as a shower.

We stayed here for two nights this past Sept. The hotel is nicely located in Edinburgh, and was very satisfactory. The staff was more than helpful and anticipated our every need. The front desk, concierge ,and bar staff all made our stay very enjoyable .The only downside was the off site parking, which was a goodly distance away.

Fantastic hotel
Very reasonable priced and just the best location.
The staff were exceptionaly helpfull
We arrived on the friday at 11 and our room was ready,
Whilst I checked in the receptionist (sorry forgot her name) was so nice, she was genuinely interested in why we were there, which was to shop, see Joseph and the dream coat and visit guillianos restaurant.
A lovely lady called Linda then unloaded the car and took our bags to the room
Sending us away to enjoy our shopping.
My aunt has to use a wheelchair and she saw no need for us to get her out the car just to get her back in again.
Arriving back at the hotel, We were warmly welcomed and Alan even took over wheeling my aunt and taking us to our room. He took great care to made sure we were comfortable and had everything that we needed.
We recieved a further call from reception to make sure all was ok and did we need anything
else.
The room was lovely, and the bed was so comfy. The hotel was spotlessly clean.
The following morning, Alan and the same lovely girl on reception were keen to know all about our evening, Their care and attention made us feel very special and added to what was a very special wee trip.
Sadly we were not overly impressed with the breakfast, It was served rather than a buffet which was nice but the food was nothing special and could have been hotter, however there was plenty to choose from and no need for anyone to go hungry
This however did not spoil our stay.
I would highly recomend this beautiful hotel and will definatley be going back.

Room Tip: If you advise them of your needs when booking they will try their very best to accomaodate you...ie...

On a five day city trip to Edinburgh, we booked the Apex Waterloo Place Hotel, mainly because of its central location close to Princes Street. On a previous visit, we stayed in the luxurious Balomoral across the road, but the roomrate in that great old hotel simply was to high this time. Upon check-in we were met by friendly staff and the the check-inn process was efficient. We were allocated room 618. This room was rather small for a twin in a four star hotel. There was no walking space behind the beds and that is difficult when you have to go to the bathroom in the dark and don't want to disturb your travel companion. We pulled away the two extremely small single beds a far away as possible to give ourselves some extra space. On the evacuation map on the door of the room, we saw that most other rooms were slightly larger or that their lay-out is more efficient. However, you don't visit a city to stay in a room for a long time, so we didn't make a request to be moved to a larger room. The bathroom was large compared to the room and had a the essentials. The only strange thing was that there was no separation at all between the shower and the rest of the bathroom, so when showering everything got wet. The room and bathroom were kept clean. A nice extra was a small swimiming pool with a sauna and steamroom downstairs. After a long day of walking the streets, this was very relaxing. We didn't take breakfast in the hotel and only visited the hotel bar. The bar was pleasant with friendly staff and a selection of beers and whisky's. The friendly and service minded staff is a trademark of this hotel. Another is the very central location, close to the old city, Princes Street and Calton. Even Leith and Arthurs Seat are close by. To summarize, the Apex Waterloo Place generally was a pleasant place to stay for a couple of nights, although next time I will ask for a larger room.

Room Tip: Try different rooms, they vary in size.
