“Great hotel in central location”
Reviewed 1 October 2013

I booked this hotel for my 50th birthday after reading reviews on trip advisor.
It is a great hotel which is within walking distance to all the city centre attractions. Waveley train station is just around the corner from the hotel which was ideal.
The room was modern and spacious with a comfortable bed.
The bathroom had a walk in shower which was fine but we do like a bath so next time we will request a room with one.
All of the staff were friendly and helpful.
We will definitely be visiting Edinburgh again and will have no hesitation in booking this hotel again.

The hotel and food were very good but the Yu Spa was very disappointment. I only get on with a lot of oil trough all aver my body than the massage that I was expecting. The girls are taking so much time in asking us to change - so much time to put oil in their hands. At the end of the day, the say-called massage last less than 30mn.

Great staff, very helpful. The waitstaff at breakfast was really efficient. The hotel is a little bit of a walk from the Royal mile, so not as convenient as others for tourists. They put us on the top floor for a wonderful view of the Firth. The only complaint I had was the mattress in our room 1009. It had a fairly serious depression on one side - the side probably used when the room only has a single guest. My wife's side was okay.

Excellent welcome by well presented staff, first impression of room was perfection! Lovely bed with plenty of pillows and enough space for four people. Bathroom was superb with walk in power shower and large bath. Room service available throughout the night, at reasonable price. Bar staff willing to cater to your taste and very polite, great location within walking distance to train station! Overall cannot find fault!

Room Tip: Hotel is over the bridge at platform 1 of the station.

This hotel is well located to all you need to see and do in Edinburgh. Our room however smelt very musty and damp, fortunately we weren't there very often. The restaurant was ok and breakfast wasn't really up to scratch, fairly expensive for what you got. We had breakfast every morning at a cafe just 2 minutes walk down the road. The bar area down stairs was lovely and nice to have a drink there after a long day.

Second time here. Just as good as the first. So handy for the Edinburgh playhouse and nearby shops. Pleasant staff and tastefully decorated rooms. Elemis toiletries (if you like to know these things). Nice breakfast and served to order rather than a hot buffet. Also selection of fruit etc.
I staying again next year when I come back to see another show.

Having stayed at some cute but squeezy B&Bs over the last week it was a relief to have a bit of room to move and a king size bed. It was reasonably close to the Royal Mile so we walked to the tourist attractions (Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood etc.) from there easily. It is very close to Waverley railway station. The bathroom is excellent, separate bathtub and shower, great to soak in the bath after trekking up and down hills and steps all day. Bed may be close to replacement time, lacked the firmness that I prefer but OK. Pillows a bit strange as they are feather ones and can be a bit lumpy. Nevertheless these details did not prevent a good night's sleep. All except on the last night of our stay when the fire alarm went off around 3 a.m. so, torn out of sleep all the guests trooped out into the night in various stages of dress/ undress and hung about in the cold until we got the all clear. It seems that someone showering (at 3 a.m.!!!) had set the alarm off with steam. There was a letter of apology pushed under the door later in the morning. Three days after checking out our deposit hasn't been returned to our account yet. Apparently it can take a week or more so we have sixty pounds we can't use on our account, a pest as it is a cash card and we leave UK in a couple of days. We have been told that we can contact our bank to hurry the process along but it is looking a bit too hard at the moment. I have heard people complain about this practice before but haven't come across it until now. Not thrilled. So, a bit of a mixed bag but on the whole reasonably happy with service and stay.
