“Helped make our engagement weekend even more special!”
Reviewed 9 December 2013

Im not a serial reviewer but on this occasion I feel I must make an exception and say a big thank you to the team at the apex waterloo Place Edinburgh. It was a very special weekend for myself and my now fiance with her birthday and a marriage proposal and the team really pulled out the stops to make it memorable and smooth running for us. So many greatly appreciated touches including the room upgrade, card and chocolates and overall outstanding service. Nothing was too much trouble and everyone was so friendly and welcoming. We couldn't fault anything which cannot be said for the majority of hotels we've previously stayed. Thank you again for helping to make it such an unforgettable weekend!

Picked here as was close to shops & the playhouse. Staff very welcoming & helpful. We were there when the weather was pretty bad with winds etc, never heard a thing!
The amenities in room were fantastic! Got a dodgy hair dryer that didn't work, phoned down & new one up to me within 5 mins. Excellent service.

Room Tip: Try get a superior room bit more room!

We stayed here in June of 2011. Located just a short block down from Calton Hill, it is a short walk up the hill from the Waverly Bridge and station where the bus from the airport drops you off. There is a stop right in front of it for one of the on-off tourist all day buses. A small grocery store is at the end of the block. You are a very short walking distance from the Royal Mile. We got there about 9 in the morning from the airport - way before check-in time and asked if they had a secure room for left baggage and the reply was that they could put us right into our room. Great. The day we left, we did leave our baggage in their secure room and picked it up in the afternoon on our way to the airport to pick up a rental car. We thought the price of our 2 night stay was very reasonable.

My husband and I recently spent the weekend at this hotel for our wedding anniversary and it was great. Check in was efficient and the staff were friendly and helpful. We were in a superior room on 9th floor and it was quiet, no street disturbance. The amenities in the room included Elemis toiletries, hospitality tray with still and sparkling water and jelly beans as well as all the usual teas/coffees/ hot chocolate etc, and everything was fully replenished each day. There was also a decent hairdryer, which can be hard to come by.
The staff at reception were wonderfully helpful when a taxi did not collect us to go to the theatre on the evening of our stay, they phoned the taxi firm repeatedly and even phoned ahead to the theatre to explain our delay.
Another nice touch was the card and box of chocs left in our room to congratulate us on our anniversary.
The proximity to Princes Street, John Lewis and the train station also made this an ideal hotel. The only minor complaint I would have is that for a superior room, it seemed a little small, but this may have been because the bed was so huge! Would definitely stay here again.

Apex Waterloo is a true gem!
We have had a very enjoyable stay in Apex Waterloo and cant wait to go back and stay in this property again. We also happily recommend this hotel to our friends, relatives and our clients.

Apex Waterloo has a perfect location. It is less than 5 minutes walk to reach the hotel from Waverley Train Station, shopping complex and restaurants at Princess Street. The hotel itself is actually located nicely at the end of the road, which helps to make the hotel secluded from the busy road of Waverly train station, Princess Street and surrounding malls and you'll find plenty of parking right in front of the hotel which is free parking from 6.30pm to 8am

To reach the Royal Miles and CBD, you can walk around 10 minutes across the bridge where plenty restaurants and shops awaits you. If you are too lazy to walk, you can pay for the 24-hours access of hop on bus which located at the park next to Waverly station. This hop-on bus is a great way to familiarize yourself with places in Edinburgh and to get around to the tourist destinations ( Edinburgh Castle, Holyrood Castle, Parliament House, Mother Earth etc).

Not only it is a perfect location, Apex Waterloo is an excellent hotel! We love the combination of Georgian classical style of the building with touch of modern interior. It makes the room feels so new/modern, comfortable and luxurious. On top of that, it offers free wifi for all your devices ( some other hotels only allow 1 device for the free wifi), accompanied with the top of the range Bosch entertainment unit.

The cleanliness of the room and bathroom is very good as well, and the complimentary amenities provided are of a good brand. You'll find free mini bar on your arrival completes with drinks, cookies, chocolate and Nespresso.

As for breakfast, as mentioned by other reviewers it will be good if the buffet menu can have more varieties.

We travel a lot for pleasure and business and have stayed in many different of five stars hotels all around the world. We found Apex Waterloo being a 4 stars local hotel chain is comparable to those five stars international, simply because Apex Waterloo has managed to exceed our level of expectation through their excellent and friendly customer service across departments from Sales department, Reception and Concierge and even to their Housekeeping.

In many occasion when are arriving in a new city, we are not familiar with the city & surrounding and wondering of how are we going to make the best out of this trip by trying to cover all sort of places to be visited ( weeks spent of googling and reading all the information of travel books can overwhelm us) and we often hope it will be great if a there's a free personal travel guide that greet us and tell us what we need to do to make the best of our holiday in a very efficient way and help us to arrange our travel needs). Well, in Apex Waterloo you'll find this! The lady concierge - Linda greeted us when we were checking in and she proactively asking us lots of questions with the intention to see if we are fine and we know how to get around. She actively explained to us the whole city through a map and places to be visited with best ways to get to those places ( when we told her that we wanted to visit St Andrews and Rosylin Chapel which located outside Edinburgh, she went all the way to arrange the car hire and printed us a map of how to get there, and she also provided a map of St Andrews and showed us where to go once we have arrived at St. Andrew and how to get to our hotel in St. Andrews). Linda's genuine gesture is an example of how a hotelier suppose to go the extra miles for client's satisfaction! She provides this service not only to us but also to other guests who stayed in the hotel ( we saw those guests who were checking out, dropped by to say their goodbye to Linda and gave her a box chocolate, cup of coffee, etc....simply to thank Linda for her taking care of them)
Therefore, if you are new to Edinburgh, don't forget to find Linda when checking in. She will look after you and happily helps you to organise your days in Edinburgh and direct you to the right places ( from restaurant, car hire, shops, etc).

Not only Linda that impressed us, Yuva - the Sales Manager for Apex came and greeted us upon check out to make sure everything were fine and we have all we need. He delivers service in a proactive and accurate manners and very informative.

Throughout our stay, we experienced of how well the communication between different level of departments within the hotel. The reception staff who helped us with the check in promptly doing a quick check for our reservation details as we made few changes with during the reservation and they wanted to make sure all orders are in place. What a relief to deal with a hotel that does not make you to repeat your needs and requests, etc as they effectively update guest's portfolio to avoid any issue.

Thanks Apex Waterloo and the whole team for making our stay and Edinburgh so memorable.

Room Tip: Request a room in a higher floor as it has beautiful view and very bright.

Consistency of service and customer care usually brings you back to the same hotel. This place knows how to do it.
Just spent four nights here. We were here in May 2012 for a family celebration. On checking out there was an IT problem. Ultimately it did not effect us but the hotel contacted us and apologised. Several weeks later we received a free nights accomodation with dinner bed and breakfast plus upgrade to better room if available. Due to my own stupidity the voucher expired in May 2013.
I cheekily contacted the Hotel to see if I could use the expired voucher for our trip in November and within an hour they came back to say they would be happy to honour it.
Great customer service as they had no obligation to do so.
We had another great stay here. If you want good accomodation at reasonable prices in a pleasant environment this is the place to stay in Edinburgh. Simple as that.
We will certainly be back and would definitely recommend.

I really like this hotel, but if they sorted out a few issues it would be fantastic.

Restaurant - food is very good, but a very limited menu, so we asked if we could also order from the room service and bar menu. The staff tended to neglect our group as they seemed more interested in the looking after the Scottish Rugby team, which became a bit tedious as we were staying for over 3 weeks (for business) and we eventually stopped eating in the hotel.

Breakfast is something out of Fawlty Towers, we had forgotten orders, cold food, wrong food, our orders given to other guests and coffee flasks with just the dregs from another guest given to us.

The corridors and stair wells can seem a bit congested with trolleys all the time which isn't good for a 4 star hotel.

The rooms are excellent and all have huge beds with loads of space, very nicely decorated and big TV's, I never sleep well in any hotel, but the Apex is the exception.

If I could afford their high prices £520 for 2 nights in December I would stay again despite the issues as its a really nice hotel.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room not overlooking the Pivo nightclub or you will be woken nu...
