The hotel is within easy walking distance of the Waverley train station, and where the Airport bus drops you, (walk up to Princes Street, turn right and keep walking).

Check in was quick and efficient and my luggage was whisked away to my room.

My room was large, light and airy and the bathroom was huge too, complete with a deep bath. I had a "city room view" which was the back of other buildings, so was in fact a city view.

The bed was enormous and very comfortable, complete with plenty of pillows.

The air conditioning / heating was very effective and was not noisy as in some hotels.

I used both the restaurant and room service. In the restaurant the waiting staff were attentive and the food was presented beautifully, and tasted good too. I was a bit disappointed with the presentation of the room service dinner (the salmon, was supposed to be presented with mixed leaf salad, but only had some sort of curly leaf lettuce and looked bland and boring). Also my second room service breakfast came with no salt and pepper, but the breakfast, on both days, complete with haggis was delicious.

The hotel is at the bottom of Carlton Hill and is close to Holyrood Palace and Arthur's seat (a fabulous walk with breathtaking views). I asked for directions at Reception and was given a map and was talked through the directions, the receptionist even wrote largely on the map as I did not have my reading glasses (very helpful).

I have stayed in Edinburgh many times, but will recommend and return to this hotel should I be in the City again. Excellent location, and very helpful, attentive staff.

This was my second visit to this hotel and my overriding memory from last time was the wonderful staff, everyone of whom goes above and beyond what's called of then.
This time I opted to go for the Duplex Suite and was delighted with the room which has 2 levels with a bathroom bigger than many hotel rooms.
Absolutely no complaints or niggles and I'll certainly be back again.

Decided to spend New Year in Edinburgh and booked into the Apex in Waterloo Place for four nights. Like all Edinburgh hotels the prices were inflated for the new year period but I suppose they have to make it when they can. It worked out at £215 a night for the first three nights without breakfast. A fourth night added on was £120, qite a difference and we were offered and accepted a special deal of dinner on the fourth night for £15 per person which was an excellent deal. The location, especially for New Year could not have been better in Waterloo Place, which is really a continuation of Princes Street. Car parking available in a car park just round the corner with a 15% discount for hotel guests. Check in was fine with pleasant friendly staff. We had a room on floor 8 with a view over the back towards Leith Walk. Room was very nice and well equipped. Large TV with plenty of choice. Free WiFi. Fridge, safe, Iron and board. Good wardrobe hanging space. Excellent and quiet aircon. Would have liked a trouser press. Very good bathroom with a sizeable bath and a separate big effective shower. A very good well fitted out room. Tried the spa and enjoyed it after a few days of overeating and drinking too much. Nice pool with a sauna and steam room. Did not try any of the treatments which were available. Had dinner in the hotel on one night in Elliot's Restaurant. Nice atmosphere. Lighting just right. Staff friendly and attentive. The food was very, very good. Tasty and beautifully presented. Would certainly eat there again. Check out was fine, quick friendly and efficient. If you are staying in the city of Edinburgh and want a hotel in the centre of things then this would be a very good choice especially at the more reasonable room rates now on offer.

Room Tip: Upper floors quieter with the possibility of a view.

What an amazing stay my boyfriend and I had at the hotel.

We parked at the Q car park 2 minutes from the hotel, (10% off if you have your token validated at the hotel).

We noticed that not all rooms had a bath and personally one of my favourite things to do is to relax in a big bath after walking around the city all day. I therefore requested this on arrival and my request was granted.

We stayed in the same floor as the reception and restaurant. No noise in the night, comfy king bed and luscious bath! If I had one request it would be for the hotel to provide some nice bubble bath. Luckily I stayed in the Apex in London recently so knew to bring my own.

We were in London on a romantic break and went to the Stand for a fun night of comedy. The position of our hotel meant it was only a 5 minute walk.

I really couldn't believe how quiet outside the hotel was considering it was at the (good) end of princess Street.

This hotel is perfect for: Princess Street and the Royal Mile.

I will definitely be staying at another Apex this year. I've been busy collecting the ducks.

Thanks again for another flawless experience at the Apex.

Ps we had the breakfast including and it was yummy!

My husband and son and I went on the same night as torchlight event what an experience and perfect hotel location. We really had no complaints which would stop us from returning. We would recommend early breakfast dont leave till nearly over as you could wait a while and rooms can be dark not much lighting but overall this would not stop us returning. Also book spa before you go as fully booked easily. Will definetly be back.

Room Tip: Our room was very dark with a small window

Well done all staff at The Apex Waterloo. Stayed 2 nights over New Year. Reached hotel at 11am and were checked into a superior room immediately. The reception male and female staff were extremely friendly and courteous and the concierge lady also put herself out to help out guests unfamiliar with the city. Room was surprisingly very quiet despite New Year and so comfortable and spotless. Lovely bathroom with Elemis products. There were quality complimentary room snacks in abundance. Breakfasts good but did not eat other meals here but the restaurant staff provided top class service. Went up the hill a few yards to Hogies restaurant which was lovely and quite reasonable one evening and attended the hotels Hogmanney Ball the other night. Location of hotel perfect for sightseeing, The red hop on/off bus was handy for us to get around and we got off a few yards up the hill on Waterloo Place coming back to the hotel instead of the last stop at Waverly station. If visiting the city again we would certainly return to this hotel.

We stayed in the Apex on 29th December and were extremely happy with the cleanliness, the location and the facilities. Their staff were friendly and professional, the rooms of a decent size and the leisure centre was clean and modern. The offer of free wifi was most appreciated - though this should be a minimum requirement in 2014 (which it isn't in the Edinburgh Sheraton for some strange reason !)
The only downside was the quality of the food at breakfast - which was without a doubt the worst breakfast I have ever had in a Hotel of this quality. The team didn't seem particularly well organised and though pleasant enough kept disappearing and needed to be hunted out to provide more coffee / toast etc. The food itself was bland : tasteless sausages eggs and bacon and haggis with the damp consistency of chewed oatmeal. The toast looked and tasted like it had been warmed up under a lightbulb. At £17.50 a head we had expected more. That said, don't let that put you off the Hotel which is otherwise excellent - just eat out !
