Just spent a week at the Cramond Mill B&B and, as hoped, it was therapy for the soul. The proprietor, Elaine, is one special lady. The staff are great and very good at keeping what can be a busy riverside cafe running smoothly – as well as the B&B.
Situated on the river Almond, Cramond Mill is ideal if you want to be lulled to a deep sleep. Elaine has thoughtfully added secondary glazing for anyone who might be concerned about this. It is situated on the flight path to Edinburgh airport, but the flights are infrequent – with smaller craft – and I did not find this impacted in any way to the quality of the stay.
The rooms are nice, simple and homey with oriental details – furniture, fixtures, etc. This added a quirky and interesting quality to the building.
The Cramond Mill breakfast is great – full Scottish, or a more continental type should you wish. A good thing to do is avail oneself of a full breakfast, then take a long walk up the river Almond path, on to the Dalmeny estate – all the way to the Forth Rail Bridge at South Queensferry.
There is a good bus service from Cramond to get you into the City centre or a 10-15min car drive has you in town proper. The key thing with Cramond Mill though, is the peaceful river (and sea) side location. With the local Cramond Inn tavern nearby – it's all you need to get away from the bustle. Good Karma. Highly recommended.
