“don't go here if your disabled”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 July 2012

I am disabled and I stayed 2 nights in Chancellors Court, the entrance to which is approx 1/4 mile from the TWO disabled parking spaces (2-- in a hotel that they claim has 2000 rooms !). There are a few others even further away, but notices state that some of these are not for use by Guests. The lift nearest my room was out of order over the 3 days. The reception in Chancellors Court was un-manned over the 3 days. Food is plentifull but basic and served by agency staff. The centre was overun with Russian children and sleeping at night was a matter of luck. The rooms were cleaned in 3 minutes flat.
There are far better hotels within a mile where you will get excellent value. If you want to live like a 17 year old student, then by all means come here. If you want value for money then go elsewhere

If you are on a budget and want clean, modern accommodation which includes all you can eat breakfast then this is a good choice. Quite basic room really, Ikea type furniture, small flat screen TV, tea/coffee making facility, large desk, decent bathroom with modern chrome towel heater and walk in shower. Phone in room but you need to buy credit either voucher at the front desk or pay by debit/credit card on the phone itself. I bought 5 pounds, stayed 2 days, called Canada and a couple of local numbers, but it was way too much for the calls I made. Try 2 pounds. Breakfast was very good with everything you could possibly want from fresh fruit salad, cereal, bacon, eggs, sausage etc. Only downside was the number of people. Place has a 1,000 rooms so summer is BUSY! Pollock Hall/Chancellor Court grounds are gorgeous and very well maintained. Location is excellent, right at Holyrood Park. If you have a car it is a beautiful drive through the park right to Holyrood Palace and Parliament Building. Go right when you leave the facility and the Park is right there. Commonwealth huge swimming pool next door. Princes Street is about 45 minute walk but there are many local buses that go there. Good shopping on South Clerk Street too (left of the Halls then right on East Preston Street) Abbey Bar on South Clerk Street is very close by. Pick up a leaflet at reception are when you check in. Good food and cheap. Try the Highland Chicken (chicken with haggis) It is very good. Lots of TV's if you want to watch sports. Another reviewer said check in was a nightmare but we found it easy. Room was not ready until 2pm which is check in time though but not a problem. We checked out early via reception area security folks who were very friendly. I got my 10 pounds deposit for the borrowed hairdryer back from them. They even supplied a packed breakfast which we ordered the day before, tub of Yogourt, 1 piece fresh fruit - we got an apple and a plum, danish and yogourt bar. All in all a good experience. Paid about $112.00CAD a night and for Edinburgh that was good value.

Room Tip: No choice, rooms are assigned at check in. It is not a hotel it is University residence

We stayed here during the Fringe-Festival. The hotel is clean and in a good walking distance to the centre of Edinburgh.
It was very good for a short-stay in this city.
The breakfast ist ok, but the restaurant is like a railway-station.

Staff really helpful. Mix up in accomidation when we first booked in and was given a free dinner ticket whilst the room was sorted out. Dinner really nice with plenty of selection. Room was clean although basic. Breakfast excellent. Will certainly stay here again.

Avoid at all costs. What a rip off. The tiniest of twin rooms, fire alarms ringing on and off all night, poor inroom facilities, and breakfast, well, what a ZOO, will need to be experienced to be believed! At £149 per night I had expected better than a paper plate with easily broken plastic cutlery at breakfast! Wide variety of food availble if you could reach but free-for- all meant cold by the time we got to the formica table. I'm disgusted at the blatent rip-off.

Room was clean, service non existent. Sleep was impossible due to noise from slamming doors other guests and a noisy toilet that staff did nothing to fix. If you like to dine in a refectory with hundreds of children then this is the hotel for you!!!. Have still to find the 3 cafes and 2 restaurants. Quality of the breakfast is very average due to catering for thousands at a time!! Would not mind if the prices matched the experience but sadly they were rather inflated.
