“Popular for a reason”

Extremely busy even for an early evening dinner, albeit in the midst of the festival but understandably so. Excellent service, delightful food (although you may need to be an aficionado of Malaysian food to fully appreciate the range of dishes on offer) and a pleasant "bistro" ambience.

“Excellent food. The rest needs work.”
Reviewed 25 August 2014

Having sampled the delightful main restaurant in Fountainbridge, we booked a table for 7 PM on a Friday night during festival time. The food is the thing, and we were very happy with what we had. The roti sauce was aromatic and not too spicy for the kids. The deep fried tofu salad was as good as anything we have had in Japan (where we live). The waiting staff are professional and polite.

The problem is the payout and the fact that the place seems a victim of its own success. Our table was right behind the main door. People waiting for take-out had to be moved when we arrived. They then stood for 10 minutes right next to us. People with no reservations arrived one after another. They were accommodated by bringing out folding tables. This narrowed the passageways and I got bumped and kicked a few times by waiting staff and punters. Everyone who arrives and waits loiters right next to the table we occupied. Even before the folding tables are brought out, the place is very tight. And if, like us, you go during Festival time and have a budding thespian in the room who thinks his booming laugh should be enjoyed by the whole restaurant, you might find the cumulative effect a little stressful. I did. Finally, 15 minutes from sitting down to having our order taken suggested staff were rushed off their feet.

This place is good for students, or young groups out to have a boisterous evening. I would not recommend it for dates, families, or people looking for a quieter, more chilled vibe. But as I said, the food can't be faulted - lovely fare.

“Great tastes”

Fantastic food - truly delicious. Generous portions and good value too. Very basic, even ramshackle surroundings but just dress-down and enjoy the experience for what it is. Efficient and friendly service.

“Truly discussing dumplings and noodle soup”
Reviewed 16 August 2014 via mobile

We had dinner there today before an evening show of the festival. The curry dishes are fine but the wan ton noodle soup we had tonight was truly disgusting. The dumplings seem to be made from the worst pork and powdery almost texture. Definitely worst dumplings ever. The environment was noisy and not ideal for a night out. We told the waitress about the dish and expressed strong negative feelings. We didn't even get a 'sorry' just 'eh...' Definitely ruined the dinner out during festival.

“Malaysian escape guaranteed!”
Reviewed 3 August 2014

If you are looking for an authentic Malaysian without sophistication but authenticity => This is the place! Even the decor will help you for the journey of your palate (pleasantly kitch).
The beef Rendang was tasty, the roti pancake with its curry succulent, my pad choi with garlic sauce fresh and I adored the chicken satay skewer. Nice kick for the tastebud. Waiting staff all Malay - good sign!
Try the iced green tea with tapioca black balls. Delicious with your meal.
