My sister and I knocked on the door to enquire about availability for end of August/Sept/Oct as we were just looking at alternative B&B options within walking distance to visit our mother who is in a nursing home. First we were met by a grumpy man who pointed out that the sign said No Vacancies. Then the lady answered the intercom and spoke to my sister while I could see her standing at the window. She didn't even have the courtesy to come and talk to us at the front door. The most bizarre experience ever and as a PR in the travel industry I would say they need to brush up on their customer relations!

So we've decided that although it's a bit further away we will most definitely be coming back to stay with the lovely lady, Lynda who runs Acelyn B&B on the Queensferry Road who has been fantastic and very welcoming.

We stayed at the White House Hotel in May 2014. It was a bit outside the city (about 3.5 miles walking distance) and away from the fun of the city center Edinburgh. The woman who runs the B&B (Margaret) is very nice. For the money, the room was not worth it. The bed was comfortable, but I felt like we were staying in her teenage son's room or something (note: she doesn't have a teenager living there but that's what it felt like). When we walked in, her husband was in the family room watching TV and seemed annoyed at us. The room is quite small with a queen bed and a bunch of other miscellaneous furniture in the room (including a twin bed). The room could do with fewer items.

We ended up staying there 2 nights (had originally planned on 3) because we wanted to get back to the city center. There is a bus that runs very near the B&B; the last bus runs at about 11:30 p.m. so that kind of cut our evening short. Also, she wanted us to pay cash in advance for our room (which is unusual compared to other places where you pay at the end of your stay). She was nice enough to give us money back for the 3rd night we didn't stay.

This was not a room where you felt like you could go back and hang around in...this was the kind of room that you just rent for the bed, shower, and toilet.

First of all, let us say a very grateful thank you to our hostess Margaret for allowing us to arrive earlier than typical so we could grab a couple of hours sleep after flying from Canada.
She was most gracious and a wealth of Edinburgh knowledge.
The room we stayed in was comfortable, clean and tastefully decorated in a typical Scottish fashion. The breakfasts were filling and made to order.
It's a quick trip to the city centre on bus 41 and with a little walking you are close to the Royal Mile and lots of other tourist adventures.
We would highly recommend this B and B and Margaret to make your stay in Edinburgh most enjoyable.

This small but charming guest house is wonderfully situated very close to a bus stop into central Edinburgh. The rooms are beautifully decorated with a Scottish tartan theme. Very clean. Excellent Scottish breakfast. The owner goes out of her way to help with tourist information. On site parking. En suite shower room. Kettle and coffee/tea in room. Electric blankets for cold winter nights. Hair dryer. Quiet location.

My partner and I stayed for a long weekend. We were in the Royal Suite - a spacious room with an en suite bathroom. On arrival Margaret greeted us and showed us to our room. We were late and had to dive off but we did appreciate the convenience that having our own seperate entrance gave. Once back much later in the evening we appreciated the tea/coffee making facilities and the custard cream biscuits.

Margaret cooks a lovely breakfast (and didnt object when I referred to it as a full English) and offered us lots of local information regarding places to visit, transport routes etc.

Highly recommended and looking forward to visiting again.

Tony

I have stayed with Margaret on four occasions now and will continue to do so when I stay in Edinburgh. The rooms are spotlessly clean and she is such a good hostess. I always feel welcomed and comfortable and always feel sad to leave. Breakfast is whatever you please and there's always some great conversation. Visit Margaret, she makes Edinburgh something special!
