“Absolutely Amazing!”
Reviewed 4 December 2013

I had my wedding reception in the restaurant on 23 Nov. The staff couldn't do enough in preparation and on the day to help. The food was amazing, I had the haggis, neeps, tatties with chicken which was delicious! Everyone at the party added compliments to the chef!

My husband and I stayed in one of fhe suites that evening and the room was perfect! There was a balcony we could pop out onto, the tv would spin around so you could watch it in bed or on the couch. The shower and bath were amazing! We ordered room service and within a couple of minutes everything had arrived (only drinks).

I would like to say a massive thank you to Caroline and Colin from the restaurant, nothing was too much trouble for them. I would highly recommend the restaurant and the hotel to anyone! We will definitely be back!

Many Thanks,

Danielle Edrosa

My husband and I stayed in FSE for two nights and absolutely loved it. And, believe me, I am a very fussy hotel guest! The reception staff were lovely, the room was beautifully appointed and the hotel itself was close to the "touristy parts" of Edinburgh without suffering from noise pollution. Our room was on the first floor - ok, there was no view, but if you want a view get out and about in the city and stop hanging around a hotel room! The finishes in our room were not at all tired or in need of a lick of paint. All in all, FSE will be my first choice on future trips to Edinburgh and I've been recommending it to all of my friends. A real gem!

Came here for overnight stay to celebrate my birthday and to go to concert at Usher Hall. We were very impressed by the hotel from the minute we walked in, friendly helpful staff. The room we had was stunning with view over Princes Street. We had booked room only but were offered a voucher for £5 off the cost for breakfast. This was excellent with choice of fruit juice, cereal, cooked breakfast as well as fresh fruit and pastries etc. There was also unlimited refills of coffee.
The walk in shower was fantastic and the L'Occitaine toiletries were really nice.
We have stayed in Edinburgh in the past although we live less than an hour away and this is the best place we have stayed.

Great location just off the Royal Mile and up from Princess St!
Lovely public area however the rooms were a little tired and in need of a touch of paint and repair. The rooms we're well equipped and had some great views, but the showers were running hot and cold and some power points in the room were dead.
The breakfast was expensive and very poor, a real let down when your Sunday breakfast is burnt and portions very small, what happened to Scottish hospitality?
No car parking near by you need to use NCP about a 15 minute walk away.

Room Tip: Ask for a room looking over Princess St gardens

Thank you for taking time to review our property. We are in the midst of a soft enhancement program along with a rolling CARE plan. We are committed to providing the best possible service and standard to all of our guests.
I am sorry your did not enjoy breakfast. We have passed your comments to the Broadsheet Bistro for their information and subsequent action.
Unfortunately being a listed historic building in the heart of the old town of Edinburgh there is no car park, however we do offer discounted rates with APOCA and NCP, both of which are a ten minute walk away.

We stayed here with two other couples and this was our first trip to Scotland. Our first night we stayed at the Fraser Suites. We arrived well after daily check-in time and we were told by the staff that our rooms were not ready. So we waited with a pile of luggage in their relatively small foyer until they could get the rooms ready. We had made our reservations months previously and had made a request to have our rooms near each other. The staff was very impersonal and not very welcoming at all. We again mentioned the request to be near each other and we were told that they doubted that would happen. We felt that they could care less if we were there. Finally, they told one couple their room was ready. The other two couples still had to wait. When we all finally got our rooms, we realized that we were on three different floors. Since we had to wait so long, we certainly weren't going to request to be moved at this point. Plus, we were all tired from hours of travelling. My husband and I were told we were on the 1st floor. Then we were told we had to go DOWN to get to the first floor. Apparently the lobby is on the 3rd floor. The elevator is a joke. There is only one small elevator and it is extremely slow. So we toted our luggage down the stairs to our room. The room was nicely appointed and very modern. Beautiful linens, nice decor, wonderful bathroom with a large shower. However, I noticed it was a bit dark, so I went to the small window and drew back the drapes...only to notice that we were actually in the basement! Our "view" was a stone retaining wall for the next property. If we twisted our heads, we could look up past the next floor to daylight. If we didn't have to wait so long to get this dungeon room, we would have requested another. But we didn't want to have to deal with waiting all over again (maybe that was their plan all along?). So we just closed the drapes and turned on all the lights in the room. We walked nearby for dinner and spent some time wandering around looking at the beautiful nearby sights, including Edinburgh Castle. The hotel is in a great location for this. The king bed was just two twins pushed together, but we were so tired we both fell asleep. The beds were reasonably comfortable. The one good thing about being in the dungeon room was that the workout room was down a few doors across the hall, so when we woke up early we got in an early workout. We had breakfast at the hotel and enjoyed our first Scottish breakfast. The wait staff was prompt, but very serious. Do they teach everyone here to be aloof? After our trip, we realized that this was the only hotel where we felt that the staff was inhospitable. Every other place we stayed and restaurant we visited in Scotland had very friendly and welcoming staff. Except for this place. For this reason, we won't stay here again.

Room Tip: Make sure you are on the 3rd floor or higher, unless you want to be in a dark dungeon room with smal...

Thank you for your very detailed review after your recent stay at Fraser Suites Edinburgh. As I am sure you appreciate the festive period in Edinburgh is exceptionally busy. We apologise that you had to wait a short time after the advertised "from 3pm" check in time, however I hope that you enjoyed our vast and well appointed foyer or perhaps partook in a beverage in The Broadsheet Bistro, our in-house restaurant.
Being in the heart of Edinburgh's Old town the property reflects the charm and character that Edinburgh is renowned for and tourists flock to experience. With its Grad B listed facade, original features and historical points of interest Fraser Suites Edinburgh is a wondrous example of Edinburgh’s unique heritage architecture. I am sorry our intimate lower ground floor room did not meet your expectation. We have several different rooms types to cater for all traveller’s needs, and when specific request are made we do endeavour to meet them. I am sorry on this occasion your rooms were not next to each other, but due to high occupancy this was not possible.
I am surprised to learn that you did not find our staff welcoming. As you will see from other reviews this is not the general consensus.
We have a senior manager on site daily, should you have brought any of your concerns to our attention during your stay we would have been able to offer a solution to ease your discomfort.
Apologies again that your stay was not to your satisfaction. I have passed on your feedback to all departments so we can improve accordingly.

We chose Fraser Suites for it's location, just 5 minutes walk from the train station and a stroll to the city centre. The reception and staff were welcoming and helpful and overall the building and reception areas looked pleasant. However, we had booked a junior suite and were expecting a reasonable level of comfort and cleanliness. This was not to be. The furniture was looking very battered and tatty, the springs on the sofa had given up making it quite uncomfortable and the carpet was stained and dirty. The microwave had clearly not been cleaned for some time as there was quite a lot of food still splatted in it. The bath sealant and tiles needed a good clean as they were black in parts. We couldn't turn the tap on for the shower as it was jammed and needed the concierge and a lot of force to move it and also we had to ask for a seal for the bottom of the shower screen to stop the water from going all over the bathroom floor. A lot of these issues could have been dealt with easily with a little maintenance and thorough cleaning.

intial impression and check in was fine + a good location.

when entering the junior suite i thought it looked nice but small. a nice clean bathroom but thought the bed was a tad soft - but was happy enough, then i tried the shower. There were 3 different knobs to turn that apparently made nothing happen, i gave in after about 10 mins and asked my partner to have a try. he also took a further 5 mins until we finally got some water. was quite annoying really.

anyway after that palava, the smallness of the 'suite' was more apparent as we started unpacking, showering and generally trying to settle in whilst dogdging each other. id say its more like a normal room with a 2 seater sofa, suite is stretching it.

after a night out we headed to bed and then I woke up with a pain in my hip. we had one of the beds i read about on here....2 singles joined together. it was awful! i had ended up in the inevitable gap that 2 singles joined would give and it was really pretty uncomortable. basically if you want to be close to your partner one of you has to end up in the 'gap'. id say thats unacceptable in a 'luxury suite' with such high prices.

the next thing we had to tackle was the microwave. couldnt see instructions (or i couldnt find them) so we ended up randomly pressing buttons until we had some half heated left over pizza. i realise both a shower and microwave shouldnt pose a problem and honestly im far from stupid, it just seemed to be the most akward 'stylish' designs were chosen.

i realise this is rather a moany review but for the price and rating i really did expect better. Im not hard to please but was looking forward to something special for a change but i left feeling id had a very average experience but with a extremely bad bed!

i would stay here again if the price was halved and i had a proper bed.

Dear Guest
I can only apologise that your experience of Fraser Suites Edinburgh fell short of expectation.
Our high end bath and showers have three settings, 1 for bath, one for shower and the other for hand held hose. I am sorry if this was difficult to use and hope that it did not cause to much discomfort. The beds are standard hotel industry zip and link beds where the facility to be able to twin is easily achievable. However for all of these beds a thick mattress topper should be present to ensure there is no feel of the join. I have passed on your feedback to our Housekeeping Manage r who will look into this and resolve accordingly.
We have a guest compendium which includes user guides for all appliances in each room, I do not know why this was not in your room for reference.
We welcome all feedback and hope that guest who have any problems will alert our management team at the time of their stay so we can quickly resolve. I am confident that if you give us opportunity in the future you would experience out normal gold standard of service and delivery Fraser Suites Edinburgh is known for. Thank you again for taking the time to review our property.
