We enjoyed this slightly funky ultra-modern hotel as centrally located in old Edinburgh as can be. We have been to Edinburgh to participate in the summer festival, which is about the most happening place imaginable.
The hotel is pricey but we got a good rate by prepaying with one of the search engines.
We wanted a quiet room so were facing the back but the view still included centuries-old buildings around a nice courtyard. The room was not large but in Europe that is hardly unusual. Besides, at the rate we paid, the room was not in the upper category.
I ate breakfast once in their restaurant and it was delicious. Though we did not eat dinner there, it looks like they have an outstanding menu and the restaurant was popular. The staff was very knowledgeable, pleasant and eager to please.

While at a conference I stayed here for two nights. It's a brilliantly situated location - minutes from the castle, the Glassmarket and literally scores of restaurants and bars. Make no mistake it is a modern affair - Missoni kilts on the bell boys and little pods to check in and out of. The rooms are well equipped - with complimentary soft drinks, snacks, internet and a wide selection of new and classic movies. A DeLonghi coffee machine in the room and spanking new Bang & Olufson TV - all in all - hard to fault.

My only possible complaint? The pillows were too soft... but that's personal!

Went for a week end of festival and the hotel is ideally situated for taking in shows and attractions - you're just round the corner from the castle and everything is walkable. I even popped back for a rest and some peace between shows. Rooms are comfortable if somewhat over-designed: I spent half an hour trying to persuade the coffee machine to work before discovering a kettle hidden on a bottom shelf with the slippers and the plug in the "wet room" didn't seem to work so the whole bathroom area became a bit of a flood zone. All the things you'd expect from a classy hotel are there - robes, mini-bar etc. Some nice touches - a mini bottle of proper milk in the mini-fridge so you can make proper drinks for example and free wi-fi. Didn't use the bar (full of trendies and not particularly attractive) or breakfast (cheaper and more flexible options in cafes 50yds away).

Stayed here is May 2010 and loved it! It's a really funky place and a must if your looking for something luxurious and edgy. The room, whilst not huge, was really unique with a Bang and Olufsen TV, expresso machine and a very comfy bed! The bathroom was ideal with a large two person shower & comfy Missoni robes. The accommodation, whilst not cheap, was worth every penny!
We also booked to eat in the restaurant in the evening, which was lovely, and headed back for breakfast and the best omelette that I've ever had. The location is brilliant for exploring the area and I would definitely recommend it. The perfect place for a speclal weekend break.

Was going to Edinburgh to visit the Military Tattoo with some friends and chose the Missoni on the strength of the reviews on this site. The hotel was absolutely perfect for us - only a few minutes walk from the Castle and right in the middle of the Old Town.
Lots of wonderful restaurants nearby - you have to visit Howies on Victoria Street for lunch or dinner - the food and staff are amazing!!!! Also a short stroll downhill has you in the shopper's heaven of George Street etc. Apart from the location the Missoni's rooms are fabulous - huge beds with pillows and duvets to die for. Check out the sound system in the bathroom! The free water, soft drinks, milk and crisps in the mini bar were a great touch. Also towels were replaced night and morning - how often does that happen in a hotel? The guys on reception made our very early check in hassle free - they stored our luggage and phoned us when the room was ready and when we got back our luggage was already in our room. They were helpful, pleasant and chatty as were the kilted porters. We had breakfast in the restaurant both mornings and one dinner - the food was excellent - especially breakfast. The service at breakfast would be my only area of minor criticism - despite asking for tea not to be brought out until our cooked breakfast was brought it still arrived as we were having cereal. On the second morning our cooked breakfasts were brought out when we were still eating our cereal - also some of the waiting staff would need to learn to smile especially the female staff - one young lady could have curdled the miilk she was so sour! But overall the Missoni was spectacular and we would definitely return.
