“The restaurant with NO service!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2012

Have been here a few times and was pretty nice - then took my Mum for lunch, after being ignored for 15 min we tried to order and were told that because there was a large booking coming in they werent serving food... extremely disappointed and a complete lack of communication from staff and what kind of kitchen are they running that cant deal with a full house?

“Made room for us!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 June 2012

We had just gotten off a tour and heading back to our B&B, 23 Mayfield, and stopped to have some Pub Grub. Well this was anything but. Had to wait a bit for a table, Soccer fans were all over - Germany vs. Greece. They sat us and had some great hand pulled beers while wife had some delicious Pinot Grigio and son had water. Had the soup of the day and it was awesome. Wife had mussels and they were fantastic and a huge portion. Son had Ox cheeks and he loved them and I had pie of the day, haggis and beef. Amazing. Not Pub Grub but actually made to order, fresh and delicious! Try it, you won't be dissapointed and what a value, 2 appetizers, 2 wines, 2 beers, 3 mains, and 3 desserts for <60 pounds!

“If mussels are your thing....”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2012

OK, a mixed bag for Reverie, which is one of our fave hangouts.

On the plus side, if your into mussels, this is the place, beating hands-down some of the more well-known competitiors in town for this particualr offering. The pots are over-generous, and the mussels are great quality. Stingy on the sides, but this is fogivable. The rest of the food I cant comment on, I've never been able to get past the fantastic mussels. That aside, this is a nice, ambient, clean pub with the odd live music, or quiz event going on. Free wi-fi, a nice place to sit and chill.

On the downside, we have noticed on a number of occasions that the food and service can be slooooooow. Not always but sometimes. We've experienced it ourselves, and we've seen others who've been unhappy with the wait.

On the whole very good, and as I say, the best around for the mussels.

“Love this place!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 June 2012

What a cool place. I got lucky and just happened on it. It looks like a typical classic pub on the inside, but has a very easy going atmosphere (sort of like a coffee shop or cafe disguised as a pub). It has a great selection of scotch and also some good local ales. I really enjoyed spending an evening here reading a good book. They also have live folk music sometimes which is fun. I would highly recommend this place.

“Excellent food Excellent service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2012

After looking for somewhere in Edinburgh and walking most of Newington we came across The Reverie, When we looked at the menu it seemed to have a good variety of meals and very reasonable. They had a 3 course Theatre menu which we went with, just lovely we had the Crabcake starter with salad the dressing was devine, then going on to have the beef borginoune it too was great melt in the mouth beef and sauce was a bit thin but tasted lovely, my hubby went for the fish and it was great too, we both went on to have the chocolate sponge which was so light and fluffy! The staff were young and very professional very good at their job.
We can sum up by saying what a delightful experience to a long day....heaven on a plate.....
