Description: The Halfway House is the smallest pub in Edinburgh and situated a stone's throw from Waverley station - halfway up a flight of stairs ( a Close ) leading from the New Town up to the Old Town. The pub is popular with all kinds of people - tourists, locals, professionals, students and even the odd celebrity! Famous for its real ales, whiskies and Scottish food - the pub is an excellent spot to stop for a while, relax and experience the Pub's unique atmosphere. You'll be very welcome!!

Located in a close in Edinburgh, this pub is small in size but wow, does it scream personality. The help is friendly as well as the customers. Because it is small, it is easy to start conversations with the locals. Being in Scotland for the first time and on the first day, we happened across this pub while walking the Royal Mile. We were introduced to our first whiskeys by a very friendly local man.

The pub is definitely one to check out. We didn't try the food but what we saw looked and smelled delicious.

I love old pubs. I particularly like to visit pubs with something a little different about them. With an hour to kill before catching a train, this little gem, just a few steps up from the south side of Waverley Street station, was absolutely perfect.
Great beer, a really good buzz about the place, and not a square inch wasted as all sorts of posters, pictures and other memorabilia cover the walls.

We just loved it. Came across it as we were passing through the streets and had to go in. Very small, very busy but great! Well worth a visit. Food worth a try too. I had Cullen Skink! It was lovely. Loved it that much we are going back tomorrow ..

It is tiny but worth seeking out. 20p off every pint of ale for camra members. Food is great too, word of warning though, their website is slightly out of date and the prices are higher than stated there but still great value.

I often stop here on my way to the station... and I'm never disappointed!
the place is absolutely tiny so be prepared... it's not easy to find a place to sit... but it's worth a try!
The food is simple and earthy... stovies and haggies, nips and tatties are my favourites! massive portions at very reasonable prices.
beer selection is great, often offering stuff from local breweries.
Highly recommended!
