“Perfect view of St. Giles Cathedral”
Reviewed 27 June 2017 for a stay in June 2017

After touring with 38 people on choir performance tour of Scotland for 11 days, arriving at this little gem was a blessing. It is located on The Royal Mile so expect the sounds of life on a main city street into the wee hours of the morning. Everyone knows earplugs are a must while traveling. Be aware that there is no lift so you must carry your bags up 1 flight of stairs.
There is charm in opening the black wrought iron gates, to wooden double doors, climbing worn curved stone stairs, to main wooden door into a lovely modern flat. The flat is well equipped and can sleep four people on 2 double/queen beds. I was traveling with my sister, we each had our own room as there is a door to close off the living room sofa bed. We were delighted to get some private space. There is a nice full kitchen and for us the bonus was the washer dryer combo. We needed clean clothes for 5 more days of touring.
I enjoyed sitting in 1 of the 3 large windows having a cup and people watching. Of course you must realize that they can see you watching and into the flat at some angles so no undressing in the front room. LOL We had a birds eye view of a parade to the castle with full Scottish dress and bagpipes from the window. The view of the Cathedral, Clock tower and toward the Castle can take you back in time, while life on the street shows the change in times.
While this flat is centrally located and as the crow flies restaurants, shops, museums, gardens are all within a 5-15 min walk, you go downhill to Princes Street, George Street and Grassmarket so have good walking shoes for the hills and cobblestones and cutting through the Closes. In Europe people walking is the norm not the exception, hills included.
Contacting Derek was easy. There is WiFi in the flat however I found that WiFi speed is slow all over Scotland. There are instruction manuals for all appliances. And a compilation of tourist fliers and guide books provided for convenience. You can drink tap water in Scotland with no problems. Better than California water for sure.
I will be back in Scotland this year. If Edinburgh is on the itinerary I would see about staying here again.

“Fantastic location on Royal Mile”
Reviewed 18 April 2017 for a stay in April 2017

Derek's apartment is centrally located on Royal Mile right across from St.Gilles Cathedral. All major attractions are within short walking distance. We were worried about possible noise, but windows are sound-proof. The one-bedroom apartment is well equipped and ideal for a couple or a small family. Definitely will recommend to our friends.

“Another brilliant apartment.”
Reviewed 7 February 2017 for a stay in February 2017

This is the second apartments we have stayed in booked through Derek and Pillow stops. This apartment is a one bed with the option of a full fold out sofa bed and full single camp bed if needed. Apartment is beautiful and Surprisingly spacious. It comes with everything you may need for a stay in Edinburgh.
The added plus with these apartments is they come with a parking permit for a nearby private parking location. Its a simple walk of 0.6 miles to collect car at the end of the stay. What i really liked about this apartment was the soundproofing of the window in the bedroom. Outside noise really was kept to a minimum. A regular visitor to Edinburgh and in the past have always opted for hotels, now we opt to stay in one of these apartments.

Fantastic service from Derek, great communication via text as to where to meet for the key. Very happy with this lovely flat, bigger than expected, great facilities everything you could want ( dish washer, washer, little welcome pack, games, books, DVDs ..) Great location on the busy Royal Mile, great to people watch and walking distance to sights ( very handy for the Castle). Secondary glazing in the bedroom makes it very quiet at night. Cannot fault this apartment or 'pillowstops'.

“Excellent Vacation rental”

We spent 4 nights in this rental and absolutely loved it. It's right on the Royal mile (right across the street from St. Giles Cathedral) so it is easy to get to all its sights and scenes. The flat was nicely furnished, very comfortable and very clean. We enjoyed having a kitchen and having a more comfortable place to relax after a day of sightseeing. There's a lot of street noise along the Royal Mile but this flat became quite quiet when the windows were closed and you wanted to sleep. We also enjoyed having a washer/dryer as we needed to do some wash (though we were a bit perplexed by the combined washer/dryer as we couldn't get our clothes dry. Fear not, there's a great drying rack in the closet to use!). The owners were very easy to work with and very welcoming. Highly recommend and wish we could go back regularly!
