What a gem in Edinburgh -what a pleasant surprise. Dont normally stay in B & B style accommodation and this was superior to some of the boutique hotels we have stayed at. The room was first class beautifully decorated, comfy super kingsize bed that we didnt want to leave, unless to enjoy the rainshower! The quality was the best from the furnishings to the fresh flowers everywhere. Food was superb and plenty of it and great quality -stornaway black pudding home made fresh pancakes for breakfast yum - service was friendly and helpful - thanks to Tammy for everything. Would recommend and will definitely be back.

This was a delight - a beautifully decorated west end Edinburgh house combined with a friendly welcome and excellent food. All the good reviews are true!

Another excellent review I'm afraid - beautiful building, stone steps, high ceilings and gorgeous old large bay windows with a lovely view of Donaldsons College from our room - which was massive yet very cosy - a perfect base from which to wander into the city (15 mins stroll). Our room must have been decorated recently, and to a very high standard. We had Villeroy & Boch sanitaryware, a huge double shower and you needn't worry about being kept awake by the other guests - the walls are solid. It was so nice it seemed a shame to leave the room at all! We received a lovely relaxed and warm welcome from the hostess and the subsequent service we received was simply exceptional. The breakfast offerings all sounded lush - although I'm very happy with my ultimate choice of a traditional breakfast which, like the rest of place, was quality.

An absolute gem. As many have pointed out, it's not obvious from the street that this is what it is, as there are no signs. The room we stayed in was excellent. Plenty of room to swing a couple of cats. Decorated with style, with classy fixtures and fittings. We overlooked the rear of the property looking into other's backyards, but this being Haymarket, not unattractive. Bed(s) substantial and bedding spotless and comfy. Very quiet during the night, so a quality kip had by all. En-suite bathroom fitted out with quality plumbing and sanitary ware, shower excellent, good pressure, plenty of piping hot water instantly available and the whole spotlessly clean.
Didn't get to meet Derek, as Tami was in charge. She is an asset to place and an excellent cook. The fixed-menu dinner was excellent, although could be awkward if you had a problem with the individual courses, so the I suppose the lesson there is check beforehand what's on the menu. The proprietor does state: Individual dietary requirements are happily accommodated wherever possible, on Allbury's website, which also has a sample menu. Breakfast was excellent, and even the cereal selection was quality. The dining room "small and intimate" typical Edi town house with high ceilings and moulded plaster work.
If there is any downside, and I would't count it as one, it's parking! Edinburgh is definitely not a car friendly city, I think Ediburgh parking warders are sent to Hereford for training by the SAS. Parking is restricted to a few non-resident permit holders meter spaces opposite the accommodation and at the time of this review the toll is £2 /hr, max stay four hours. There is no off -street free parking anywhere nearby, unless you count Dunfermline as nearby. Oct / Nov of 2011 is going to be a pig to park as local restrictions are in place. Best bet if travelling by car is park at the numerous park and ride facilities. Edinburgh airport p&r is on the west to east route and a number 100 bus drop-off is only a couple of hundred yards from Allburys, at the corner of Magdala and W Coates ( bit of New York patter there!). If travelling by train, Allburys is literally two minutes from Haymarkent railway station. When travelling into Edinburgh, either walk, it's not far and all flat, or the train to Waverley is only five minutes from Haymarket and the trains are frequent. A decent little boozer nearby is the Mercat, five minutes on foot. Serves a decent pint of Duechars IPA. Beer, spirit + mixers prices reasonable.

Like other reviews we also thought should we drive away. That would have been a big mistake. We had the top floor suite, views over the city to the castle, fantastic accommodation, fine food and Derek our host. Great place, look forward to next time. S&M

As with the other reviews, I did wonder what we were letting ourselves in for when we arrived and found a shared entrance with no obvious signage to reassure...don't be put off! The Allburys experience is just lovely and the food delicious. Only a short walk from the city centre, this is an ideal base for visiting Edinburgh. We will most ceratinly go back and am happy to recommend!

We had a lovely visit to Edinburgh thanks to Derek's hospitality and the superb accomodation at Allbury's. The room we had was superb, comfortable and with a lovely view over the city. The bedroom and bathroom have been fitted out to an exceptionally high standard.

Derek is an excellent host, the breakfasts were delicious and obviously prepared with care and thought. All this in addition to the characterful accomodation made for a great way to celebrate our wedding anniversary
