“perfect boutique hideaway in Edinburgh”
Reviewed 6 January 2011

Our visit to Edinburgh for New Year became a special treat; mostly owing to the wonderful hospitality and warmth that we received at Allbury's. Derrick was a truly gracious and accomodating host - with nothing being too much trouble and a genuine desire for our stay to be perfect. We'd gotten off to a bad start earlier in the year when an internet booking engine had not processed our reservation - one call to Derrick and what was 2 rooms had been repackaged as the Robin suite and we were pleasantly surprised upon checking in with the quality and attention to detail that Allbury's offered. We opted to stay in for New Years and enjoyed a spectacular 5 course meal in what became a private dining room. All local ingredients, beautifully prepared. The polar opposite of what i know to be on offer at big, chain hotels, Allbury's fast became a true 'home from home' in a quiet, residential yet easily accessible part of the city. By the time we left, we felt like part of the family and can certainly recommend Allbury's, Derrick and his beautiful cats to anyone looking for a special place to stay in Edinburgh.

I read the other very positive reviews and turned up with high expectaions of this lovely boutique B&B, thank you Tripadvisor for uncovering this little gem! Derrik was the ideal host and had obviously spent a lot of time and thought in creating the perfect venue. The place just oozed quality in every respect, its fabrics, beds, cleanliness, decor - absolutely sumptuous. The food was amazing, he should be going for a Michelin star!
Location wise less than 10 minutes walk from the centre, 15 if you take the glorious route by the tree lined river and weir. I was trying to buy a rare tartan and could not believe how much time and effort the host put in to help me find it ( which we did thanks to his help) - above and beyond the call of duty. Top host, top venue, top visit.

B&B is in a good location, about 10 minutes walk to the centre of Edinburgh, though no parking is available on site. Room small but clean. The host was helpful and friendly though breakfast was slow and ill timed and with other guests at the shared breakfast table the wait was lengthy though food was pre-booked the night before. The meowing cats kept us await most nights or woke us early mornings.

I would highly recommend staying here. Derrick the owner and host was very helpful with all the details of our trip. He gave directions, set up reservations for dinner, and cooked up a wonderful breakfast. The homemade bread was superb. The B&B is less than a mile from the Royal Mile. It was a very nice walk although we did make use of a taxi every now and then. The rooms are wonderful and cozy. I stayed on the top floor which had a view of the cathedral spires and Arthur's Seat. My brother and sister in law stayed in the bedroom and I stayed in the sitting room which was totally separate room. Check out the walking path by the river that is only a block away. It is like a nature trail in the heart of the city.

My teenage daughter and I spent 3 nights at Allburys, and had a fantastic time there. Derek looked after us completely offering useful advice and assisting us to settle in so that we could make the most of our Edinburgh experience.

The room was sumptuous and the bathroom was exquisite. Derek was very accommodating with assistance regarding local attractions and practical information (which bus to catch).

Derek's cooking is amazing, and worth the stay just for that!

We would definately return to Allburys

My husband and I had the pleasure of being guests of Derrick Wrenn and his lovely boutigue lodging. It was close to city centre and beautifully decorated. It is obvious Derrick pays close attention to provide for the needs and wishes of his guests. He even went out of his way to add coins to our parking so we would not have to interrupt our walk into city centre.

Breakfast was wonderful and we enjoyed our conversation. We would highly recommend Allburys.
